I have had this machine for a few months now. It has a totally mind boggling array of functions some of which are still eluding me.
Instructions :- I was expecting to receive something the size of an encyclopaedia with this machine in order to explain all of its functions, however I was pleasantly surprised by the document that I did receive. It is well set out logical and easy to navigate, covering all applications. There are questions that I have not yet managed to answer yet, but I think it is just a matter of time. The MC11000 also has built in instructional videos which help out with bobbin winding and the automatic needle threader amongst others.
working with it. getting started There is very little to assemble and what there is is simply done which leaves you ready to start sewing. the simple functions are just that - simple, and in that respect it is an absolute joy to work with. The on screen displays alongside the booklet make it almost foolproof.
basics As I use it more the functions are becoming simpler, it really is a case of familiarisation, once you know which button to press the machine does a lot of the work for you. The ' button ' is of course a lovely full colour touch screen which is height adjustable for your comfort and you can load your on photos onto it for the screen saver. The stitches are fully controlled in size, speed, shape etc so the options are only limited by your imagination. you can also get software, not supplied ( which I do not have yet) that can convert any picture or photograph into a compatible embroidery pattern. how cool is that, when I do get my hands on it I think my dog will be everywhere.
embroidery The built in designs are great and the hoops are easily attached to the machine. you do need a large workspace for the way the machine functions but the results are lovely, just make sure that you use a good stabiliser and fix the fabric firmly into the hoop. The only issues I am having with this function is the downloaded embroidery patterns, I can get them onto the computer just fine but transfer from computer to the machine is a little frustrating , as some of the designs seem to cross over no problem whereas others do not want to go, even though they are all in the .Jef format from the same website. go figure.
quilting. I cannot say much here yet as I am still on a learning curve with quilting, let alone the machine, I have sampled some of the stippling patterns and found them to be simple to do and effective, the presser foot and its attachments are versatile and with plenty of clearance for multiple layers of fabric.
conclusion I have always wanted to have a more flexible machine as I used to love being creative but sewing just was not fun anymore on my old machine. I just fell in love with this model, watched all the introductory videos and researched prices online. it took me weeks to decide to go for it as it is a lot of money. I upgraded to this machine after 20 odd years with a manual ( non computerised) model that had about 15 stitches to choose from and I think this may have been too big a jump to take I would recommend this machine to anybody who is familiar with computerised sewing, or embroidery machines and to anybody who is not afraid to learn . You will be well pleased with the results you can get with this. Even for the likes of me it was a good purchase but it is time consuming and sometimes frustrating when I try to jump ahead of myself . It will be a few more months before I am comfortable with this machine but I think it will be worth it.

Great first review. I had no idea sewing machines have evolved into computers LOL.

I could relate to a lot of this - I've got a Husqvarna Viking Designer and you're so right that these things take time to get used to! I've had mine about 18 months and I still feel like it's got a mind of its own. Some really good tips about transferring the files and the space you need for the hoop, too.
