If you're using Paint Shop Pro 5 it's time to upgrade, if you're still stuck in PSP4 it's definitely time to get your life back on track and move forward with what may well be the best graphics program available for the money.
Whether it be web graphics, digital cameras/photo enhancement or a drawing package, Paint Shop Pro 6 can fill the bill. With it's latest release, Jasc Software has taken a giant leap forward in the graphics software industry.
With it's easy learning curve, Paint Shop Pro 6 is perfect for the beginner yet it is robust enough for the experienced graphic artist. There are enough advanced features incorporated into the program that Jasc will release the next version before you've explored all there is to offer.
New features in this version of Paint Shop Pro include:
1. A Multicolor Gradient tool
If the pre-installed gradients don't meet your needs the Multicolor Gradient Tool allows you to import, edit or create your own gradients. I've not tried importing a gradient, probably because I don't have one to import, but creating a new one is as easy as can be.
2. Editable text that you can place on paths This is probably one of the best features of PSP6. Not only can you create text on a curve, but you can go back and edit that text at any time, (as long as you keep it as a vector layer and don't convert it to a raster layer). If you're like me and like to add a drop shadow to everything, just hang in there and be patient. When you're positive you won't be changing that text any more, convert it to a raster layer and add drop shadows to your hearts content!
3. Digital watermarking for embedding copyright information Well, explaned by itself

For those of you who have struggled to create a picture frame, your trials are over. A selection of pre-installed picture frames is now available at the click of a button. Oval and round frames will even set the transparency for you!
Does it write the HTML for you? Not yet, but who knows what the future will bring! And until that day, PSP 6 is still well worth your time. If you're still not convinced, Animation Shop 2 comes free with PSP6!

...been hooked. With version 6, Jasc have made what is, in my opinion, the best piece of 2D graphics software available, even better. The layers (from version 5), the vectors (new in v.6) and the multitude of tools are invaluable, and the program's really easy to use as well. The only reason I can think of not to buy this is that version 7 is just on the horizon (Autumn, I think). Overall, a powerful yet easy to use program, and very good for posters, ...

If you like your photo’s and your pictures to look a bit better then this is for you. A very big leap from draw or paint, it offers huge variety and scope. Making drawing much better. Having done An Art course this was helpful, it was like having your own paint, such was the array of colours. The zoom in function and the cut and paste were a great help. Try a simple drawing in paint and transfer it to Paint Shop Pro and check the difference.
... ...anything in, and want to add a bit of your own touch. You can download a demo of Paint Shop Pro from the net, which is good as the one available in shops. The graphics and colours are just brilliant, and if you use draw or paint a lot, this is a must. I would recommend this without a shadow of doubt, the difference is unbelievable and you can have a lot of fun with it. Just as much fun as painting!
It saves files well, and worth the money I paid.......cost ...

I don't buy many applications due to the sheer expense of them, but this one leaped out at just the right price. I have my own web site to look after and so some sort or art package is certainly required. While trying out all the shareware versions of these programs, I got to like Paint Shop Pro.
At first this program struck me as being an art package, a sort of far superior version of MS Paint for instance. But after using the program for a while ... ...that. There is capability for vector editing and layered drawings. There was all the things I find in the more expensive programs. While playing about with designs for my website I often find myself playing with all the affects and deformations you can do to the images. There are loads some with really striking effects. There are things such as wind or motion blur, also effects that make your image look like its jumping out at you etc. Well worth ...

This piece of software and Photoshop are probably the two most used on the internet and they are the two tools that I use. PaintShop pro is a budget option at a fraction of the price of photoshop it does not have so many features but what it does have are very good all the same. For a beginner I would recommend this as a starter option and then moving onto the more powerful tools . The fact that a shareware try before you buy version is available ... ...to evaluate the product and decide whether you wish to purchase the full version. The programs layout is easy to navigate , the program does come with a number of filters/effects and through experimentation you can create some great effects with them. The inclusion of animation shop (a gif animator) is a great addition and this is an easy program to create your own animated gifs with. Advantages: A few new features, same old good support and import/export Disadvantages: the new text feature is horrible
I rate this as below par, when compared to PSP5.
I have used PSP 5 for ages and absolutely love it, but version 6 has me upset in so many ways.
I would never buy this version, and will continue to use version 5 until version 7 is released.
The worst part is the Text feature, it has been changed so drastically from version 5, I really can't get my head around it enough to use it.
The inclusion of vectors is nice, but is a bit too limited.
