Slow Down! Its MoTown!
Review of Motown Ultimate Hits Collection - Various Artists by Craigshadow12

Advantages: Some Classic hits, All on one collection
Disadvantages: Some hits missed out.

Being a huger motown fan i decided to purchase this album so i could have a collection of motown hits all on one CD. As i had heard most of the songs on the album before my purchase i knew what to expect and thus was not disapointed. Each song on this album has its own upbeat rhythm and lyrics that will have you singing along for hours. The album has 46 tracks which is a good collection of motown hits to have. Many hits on the album can be hardc ...
...that there is a vast number of clasics hits not featured here. However if you are just getting into motown then this is a great place to start. For the more serious collector tho i would suggest like me you collect the records for that more classic and authentic feel. ... Read review

Bloomin' Norah!
Review of Come Away With Me - Norah Jones by paulhanton

Advantages: Some outstanding tracks.
Disadvantages: Some rubbish.

Norah Jones - Come away with me This album cost me a princely sum of 50p from Barnsley Sunday Market. The album, released in 2002 is still riding high in the jazz charts, and the only track I had heard prior to buying this album was 'Don't know why' which is certainly in the jazz style of ballads, and she has a jazzy voice to match. Five Grammy's, twenty million plus sales, this has gotta be a cracking album right? Coupled with the fact that she ...
...no life. 0/10. 5. Come Away with Me First track on the cd written by Norah. A ballad like song with a change of vocal style for her at the beginning with an almost hushed voice...piano work is quite sublime. What this song essentially does is tells a dreamy longing by someone. Not my usual type of song, yet, there is something about the guitar work again, Asian and jazz influenced that makes me really like this, and her vocals really are quite ... Read review

dance me to the music of the burning violin
Review of Careless Love - Madeleine Peyroux by the_critic101

Advantages: takes you to a time in the past
Disadvantages: has to be enjoyed at the right time/place

I first heard this album sitting in my local music shop with two male friends and my intial reaction was one of blushes...the power of the truley sensual voice of Peyreux was sufficient for me to have to leave the shop,so beautiful her tone, and classical the lyrics I thought my friends would only think id suggested listening to this as a means of seduction. She posseses a quality known to real jazz/blues singers to find somewhere deep inside her ...
...away and feel a part of a world where love, sex and sensuality are what lifes about. The french are known for their ability to transcend into the realms of romanticism and this is where I want to be, barefoot in paris listening to my loves ambitions, pains and woes sung like honey by a dark mysterious woman in a smoke filled bar.I will always listen to this album and its one for stolen moments of enjoyment and appreciation of a truley beautiful lyricist. ... Review of Walk Across The Rooftops, A - Blue Nile (The) by Miles13

Advantages: Soulful real music
Disadvantages: It's an old pressing

...5 month period called “A walk across the Rooftops” contained all the tracks written over the previous 2 years, during the time of recording the band tried to live very cheaply poring all of Linn’s money into the recording, the resulting songs sounded nothing like any else on the music scene at the time. The tracks are full of the passion of Buchanan’s lyrics, which for me take something ordinary and make it sound magnificent ...
...The Album “A walk across the Rooftops “(4.54) the title track opens with an ever so quiet keyboard played by P.J. Moore who’s volume builds slowly to what sounds like the wires in a piano being struck and then another keyboard is used to imitate a trumpet the first line is sung “I walk across the roof tops” this is a signal for the warm rich bass sound of Robert Bell to start with 5 deep notes then the unofficial band ... Possibly good
Review of Unpossible - Hoax (The) by hoaxey

Advantages: Blues with a modern twist and great muscianship
Disadvantages: A very mixed bag and doesn't know what it wants to be

"Unpossible" is The Hoax's follow up to their brilliant debut album "Sound Like This". Unfortuanely, this recording does not live up to the standards set by their first album. This is may be due to the fact their label Warner Bros insisted that they come up with a commercial hit. Well, the Hoax are a blues band and that is not an easy thing to do. Judging by their first album, the boys love the blues and and they played it with aplomb. But this ...
...on here but compared to their debut and final album "Humdinger", this is a pretty weak offering. "Turn it Upside Down" opens proceedings and is a filthy blues shuffle and very much in the Hoax style, and whilst it puts a refreshing spin on the blues formula, it seems tired in comparison to the energy of "Much 2 Much" off their first album. The next track is "The Emperors new clothes", which is a pretty decent song, but does not at all sound like ... Read review
