I tried this in Boots one day when I was out with a friend who really loves this perfume. That day, I just felt like buying a new perfume preferably not one of those fruity refreshing type I usually have without having any particular brand in mind. I wanted to try a few and see what impressed me. My friend asked if I liked vanilla. I said yes. She went straight to Gaultier 2 and said she had one as well. I thought I'd give it a go and let her spray a generous squirt on my left wrist.

At the first sniff, I wasn't sure I liked it because it was strong. I felt a bit overwhelmed. I remember smelling something bitter and something very sweet at the same time. But after 15-20 minutes, I liked it for some bizzare reason because I'm not usually the one going for strong perfumes.

Gaultier 2 was out in 2005, launched by Jean Gaultier. The features notes are ambergris, musk and vanilla. It is marketed as unisex but I personally think it's more on the feminine side, although not as feminine as the Jean Paul Gaultier Classique.

The other main feature of this fragrance is the linear nature of scent - it doesn't have the traditional top, middle and base notes. The smell is the same throughout except the few minutes in the beginning when it sets on the skin. The start is amber, musk and vanilla with some fruity floral scent. The mixture is musky and sweet at the same time. The amber and musk in the beginning is quite intense (I think) but got smoothed out by the vanilla after a while. The finish is kind of creamy / velvety just as what one would expect from Vanilla. My friend commented that it can give a powdery finish on her skin but I don't feel much this way when I wear it. I guess it depends on individuals and how the fragrance works with our body chemistry. I personally think it integrates well into the skin.

I've used this both for work and for going out. I've had compliments when I wear this. In fact, a friend bought one right away. The lasting power is great. It can go on for about 8 hours and I don't have to reapply all day.

This is one of my favorites not because I'd wear it often, because it's different. In fact, it can get a bit sickly if I wear it more than 2 days in a row. It's not my signature fragrance but I'd wear it when i want to feel a bit different or want a boost in my mood. It creates a kind of bittersweet feeling but somehow gets me hooked. It makes me feel warm. I can't say this is for everyone but I'd recommend everyone to at least try it and decide for yourself.

It comes in 40 and 120 ml and only has the EDP version. All the bottles are magnitised at one side, so they can cling to each other and be taken apart (mine can stay on my fridge with all my other fridge magnets!)

It can be found in many shops on high street and on the internet and the prices vary. I bought mine (40ml) on ebay at around £20.
