Advantages: small - cheap - easy to use - point and shoot
Disadvantages: not too many considering
Picture tearful boy - "It wasn’t my fault - it wasn’t honestly, I was taking a photo of Sam and I just dropped it!"
I did the day I bought my Kodak dc4800 (also reviewed). Knowing my boys like my toys as well as theirs I looked into getting something they could use and wouldn’t reduce me to tears once it got broken!
So I looked on all the usual internet sites, and ended up on Ebay, what I had in mind was a simple to use camera ideally under £100 ... ...the boys as up to date as possible with IT even my youngest.
After a lot of looking and checking and researching I found what I was after:
The Jenoptic JD 800i - £100.00 it was at the top of the budget that I wanted to spend but for the features I was getting it was fine!
Heres the camera's details:
*1024 x 768 pixels
*2mb photo card (with mine)
*Equivalent to an ISO 100 camera
*JPEG format pictures
*Erase function (last pic/all pics)
*USB ...

Advantages: image quality, price, ease of use, built in flash, good battery time.
Disadvantages: time taken to save photos.
I bought this camera after checking it out on the website. It had the best resolution for under £100. It's got an 850,000 pixel CCD (the component that takes the pictures.) giving a resolution of around 1280x764. After taking a few pictures, i was really impressed with the quality and brightness. The camera saves the pictures on a smartmedia card, (a 2Mb one is included, you can fit around 20 photos on that size.) and connects to your computer via ... ...work with most popular graphics programs, even imaging that comes with windows. The batteries on the camera last a decent while too.
The time it takes to save photos between each shot is a few seconds, so it's not good for fast shooting like an SLR camera.

Advantages: Price, candid snapshots
Disadvantages: close up, confusing viewfinder
I bought this camera for my partner over 2 years ago. It has held its value quiet well and compares favourably as far as I can tell with new comers to the lower end digital camera market. This camera has produced some great snap shots. It is great for middle distance and candid snap shots and general views and scenery. It's close up is a bit hit or miss - but I think this might be me too.
The camera view finder is rather confusing with two squares ...
