Charity Begins..........In The Charity Shop!

Advantages: Some real bargains
Disadvantages: Some real trash

I have just returned from a lovely holiday in the English Riviera - that's Devon to you and me! And I have to say that the standard of their charity shops down there is simply amazing. I love second hand shops - love to have a good old rummage through other peoples cast offs. I must admit there was time when I wouldn't have been seen dead in one but after the birth of Bex we found things tight to say the least and these shops were a god send. Advantages: In the op
Disadvantages: In the op

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Not cheerful

Watching Mary Portas wield the big stick over the pensioners in the Save The Children shop on Mary Queen of Shops on BBC2 as she tackled charity retail it was quite revealing to learn that only 25% of the stuff sent in was actually resalable. People basically don't send stuff in that they think might actually make the charity some money but stuff they deem crap but don't want to throw away because they feel guilty or something. I don't really think about that until she discovered that home fact. The truth is big companies are no different and use charities for dumping grounds, sending faulty or disconnected items in huge ...
