As I use the John Frieda shampoo and conditioner, I looked to see if there was anything in their range that was appropriate. There was! John Frieda's: 'brilliant brunette Simply Sleek straightening balm'.
The premise is, it takes brunette hair from meek to sleek in just minutes. It smoothes down and straightens out your hair for a super- sleek, brunette style. Illuminates multi dimensional brunette tones and delivers a multi dimensional ... ...and the like.
All John Frieda products can be spotted a mile off; the packaging is very classy, it uses, multi dimensional shades of brunette (or blonde or red, depending on the colour range) and white writing (see pictures). The bottle's used to contain the product feel very sturdy - giving the impression of posh-ness, which is always a bonus. It is recyclable too ... for all the environmentalists out there.
I recently had my hair styled, subsequently; it has become imperative and a bit of an obsession that I straighten and style and generally pansy about with my hair before I vacate the house. Straightening does half the job; I find I need 'products' to keep it looking styled throughout the day. Therefore shortly after my haircut, I went on a search for products.

It smoothes down and straightens out your hair for a super- sleek, brunette style. Illuminates multi dimensional brunette tones and delivers a multi dimensional satin shine. John Frieda always makes pie in the sky claims!
It is marketed for brunettes (obviously) albeit natural, coloured or highlighted brunette. It is retailed at around £4.50, give or take a few pence in various shops. You get 100mls for your moolah. It can be found in supermarkets, Boot's, and the like. The directions of use (the instructions are given on the packaging) are, to apply to damp hair, using 1-2 pumps of the balm, more or less depending on hair length and thickness. Work the balm through the hair dispersing it evenly, then comb through. Blow-dry you hair section by section, using a flat brush to pull sections taut. If you don't wash your hair daily, you can use it the same way the next day on dry hair to gain the same effect.
When using the product for the first time, the smell that initially greets you is, the same smell of the John Frieda's shampoo and conditioner; a mild yet intense (yes, I know that's an oxymoron) smell of coconuts - a smell of quality. This smell lingers discreetly throughout the day. The balm is white and has the consistency of mayonnaise … typical of most balms or serums. I used it on damp hair, then, rather than blow dry; I straighten my hair with hair straighteners.
The effect is equal to its claims (on a realistic scale); it does indeed, 'illuminate multi dimensional brunette tones and delivers a multi dimensional satin shine'. I never cease to be impressed by this result. They don't use hair colouring ingredients, therefore, it amazes me how they manage to, turn hair from being what could be described as mousy, into hair that looks as if, it has several different highlights of brunette within it. The balm calms down hair, prevents frizzy-ness and flyaway hair, keeping it looking sleek, just as promised.
I do find as the day goes on, my hair does have the tendency to get a bit flyaway. Apply a pump of balm evenly and this sorts the problem out. This is fine and dandy, if you have the means, but for me at work this is uber inconvenient and practically impossible … therefore I just use a bit of John Frieda's finishing crème to complete the job. This keeps it looking sleek all day.
I use this product alongside other John Frieda products, which I believe heightens the effect. My teenage cousin, who is a typical vain girly girl, likes to test out all things hair related (I have lost hundreds of pounds worth of stuff to her); she uses it following various brands of shampoo, conditioner etc. It still has an impressive effect, but it is most definitely at its optimum when used in conjunction with other John Frieda products. As my cousin tests my things, I do likewise - therefore I can say with confidence, this is far more effective than similar products i.e. TRESemme, Trevor Sorbie, Fudge etc (although I do give a big thumbs up to fudge products … it just smells like bubble gum, which I dislike immensely).
The cost is similarly priced to other mid-range hair products. I've had it for approximately a month and a half now, I use the product daily, and it still feels about half full, so, therefore I predict it will last a very long time. If you consider £4.50 a lot of money to spend on such a product, it really isn't if you consider it will last several months. John Frieda offers hair care ranges for 'brunettes', 'blondes' and 'reds'. If you're not a brunette, it's worth checking out the range suitable for you. I am a John Frieda product enthusiast and thoroughly recommend them.
Overall, John Frieda's: 'brilliant brunette Simply Sleek straightening balm is a fab product that lives up to its claims (with a touch of realism). It keeps you hair looking sleek, straight and controlled, with a bonus of illuminated multi dimensional brunette tones and a multi dimensional satin shine! A big thumbs up.

“Every John Frieda product is more than just a premium haircare brand. It’s an experience. The experience of exciting, glamorous, sexy hair” John Frieda is a professional haircare brand, which is available to buy in shops such as boots. I really like John Frieda Brilliant Brunette products. I like this set as I it means I got to try some of the products that I hadn’t tried before. The full size individual items are quite expensive but I believe this set was only £10 from Boots and each item has lasted well. Thanks for reading! ...

Advantages: Some of the ingredients Disadvantages: -
Having chosen John Frieda's Brilliant Brunette Shine Release™ Moisturising Shampoo from the three Brilliant Brunette (BB - sorry but I'm not typing that again!) shampoos available, I had less choice over conditioner - in the BB range there is only the Light Reflecting Conditioner available.
So this is what I went for - in Chocolate to Espresso (for darker shades of brunette). If you're a lighter shade of brunette, be it natural, colour-treated or ... ...get the most out of John Frieda by using both shampoo and conditioner. I've put that this product is for normal hair because there is only one John Frieda BB conditioner, which is used with the Volumising, Moisturising and Balancing shampoos. The conditioner's main aim is to leave the hair in good condition with a healthy shine and I would say that it achieves this. If you have oily/greasy hair though, this shampoo will probably not make any difference. ...

I've got to confess, I never had any intensions of buying this as it's a bit pricey, but when I was given some for Christmas, I had no choice but to give it a go
This comes in two varieties, one for lighter shades of brown - chestnut to hazelnut - and one for darker - chocolate to espresso. I use the lighter one and so will be reviewing that one
===General===
It's got a very smooth appearance, and whilst the fragrance is nice, I can't quite put ... ...only need a small amount as it lathers up very easily, providing you've made your hair wet enough to begin with. It also rinses very cleanly, and only one application's needed.
I have to admit, being a shampoo for dark hair, I was expecting the shampoo to be brown - but it's creamy in colour. Not a major point, but something that took me by surprise!! ===Packaging===
This comes in one of those trendy looking tubes that stands on its end. I'm not ...

Advantages: Hair smells fantastic and hair feels soft . Disadvantages: I suppose there are a lot of chemicals listed in this - but this is the same for most conditioners
==JOHN FRIEDA CONDITIONER== John Frieda Conditioner I thought that I would review this conditioner as I recently ran out of it and so had to use a general one that was knocking about in the bathroom. It is only then that I realised how good this conditioner is and how much I missed it. ===What it is like and overall opinion.-=== The conditioner is a creamy colour and is quite thick in consistency, so you only need a circle of about 2 to 3 cm diameter. ... ...treated or highlighted hair brunette hair. I don't know if buying shampoo and conditioner by hair colour really makes a difference in particular, but this product is good and does it's job anyway. It states that it has special illuminating properties - and contains cocoa bean and crushed pearls to help achieve this. The bottle is one where you take the conditioner from the bottom and it has a cap that stops drips. I leave it in my hair for a few ...

This shampoo is by John Freida who is the same guy who "invented" frizz ease, the line of products which calms frizzy hair. Never having used the frizz ease products myself i cant comment on thier success. However the brilliant brunette line of shampoo and conditioners by john freida are pretty damn good. They are available for both blondes and brunettes and for different tones. I used Chocolate to Expresso as my hair is dark brown. There are also ... ...to increase the shine of your hair, leaving it smooth. It promises to increase and enhance natural tones in your hair "without adding or depositing colour" in other words it is not a hair dye. And it wont add tones. The shampoo is quite expensive, a 250ml tube costs about £3.48 in boots or a supermarket. However, this product is often on offer at boots. I first bought it back in septemeber 2005 because it was in a 3 for 2 deal at boots. SInce then ...
