This shampoo is by John Freida who is the same guy who "invented" frizz ease, the line of products which calms frizzy hair. Never having used the frizz ease products myself i cant comment on thier success. However the brilliant brunette line of shampoo and conditioners by john freida are pretty damn good.
They are available for both blondes and brunettes and for different tones. I used Chocolate to Expresso as my hair is dark brown. There are also shampoos for lighter brown hair.
The shampoo promises to increase the shine of your hair, leaving it smooth. It promises to increase and enhance natural tones in your hair "without adding or depositing colour" in other words it is not a hair dye. And it wont add tones.
The shampoo is quite expensive, a 250ml tube costs about £3.48 in boots or a supermarket. However, this product is often on offer at boots. I first bought it back in septemeber 2005 because it was in a 3 for 2 deal at boots. SInce then i have bought it again at boots and at tesco, both times it was on offer so my advice is to wait for it to be on offer and stock up.
The packaging is attractive in a smooth shiney tube like container. The wording is very clever also, the use of "chocolate and cocoa" "crushed pearls" and "expresso" really play on the consumers mind to buy this product. Some people have commented that the tube is hard to open. I havent found this. It is easy to open and practical to stand up.
The consistency is smooth and fairly runny but has a really nice colour, like golden brown. It also looks quite translucent as times and is shiney, i dont know whether this is due to the "crushed pearls" but it all adds to the effect. It laters up well in wet hair and smells really good.
I also use the chocolate to expresso conditioner which is wonderful.
I cant say ive noticed any additonal enhancement of colour tone in my hair. My hair can get a bit wild after ive just washed it but when using this shampoo it is definetly smoother and really really soft and shiney, plus it smells fab! The conditioner is excellent and i would recommend buying both.
For a time i went back to using herbal essences because it was alot cheaper but my hair totally didnt look or feel as good as when i was using brillitan brunette.
There is also a sleek shine brilliant brunette serum which you can put in towel dried hair or completely dry hair and it is supposed to enhance shine. I have used this product on nights out and find it does add a nice smell to my hair and helps shine when i straigten my hair. A little also goes a long long way. I still have the serum from september 2005. However i wouldnt go out of my way to buy the serum again when the shampoo and conditoner alone do a good job
***The shampoo is suitable all hair types natural and coloured. My hair is occassionaly dyed darker brown and it has been pink before so will work on many colours! My hair also gets greasy within three days so i wash it every other day

Advantages: Hair smells fantastic and hair feels soft . Disadvantages: I suppose there are a lot of chemicals listed in this - but this is the same for most conditioners
