I received this gift set for Christmas and I am still using it. I haven’t used the shampoo and conditioner much as my hair was highlighted pink at the time when I got this set so I was using a shampoo and conditioner more suited to this. I have tried everything in this set now though so I thought I would share my opinion with you.

John Frieda is a professional haircare brand, which is available to buy in shops such as boots. I first discovered John Frieda (Brilliant Brunette) when boots offered a money off voucher on a professional haircare product. I bought some Brilliant Brunette mousse and only had to pay about £1 difference.

(salon experience) for different colour and types of hair. (Blonde, Red, Brunette, Frizzy)
~ What is in the box? ~
The box is cardboard (and therefore recyclable) with a plastic tray inside which holds the following items:
I did not keep the box. I took the bottles out and put the box in the recycling bin as it would have taken up too much room.
~ Shine release moisturising shampoo ~
There is 50ml of shampoo. It doesn’t take much shampoo to form a good lather, as long as your hair is soaking wet. This shampoo is for hair colour chocolate to espresso. I’m not sure that this is the colour I would describe my hair as but this doesn’t seem to matter, as it makes no difference to the colour of my hair.
My mam uses this shampoo more than I do. My mam has been using this everyday for a few months and I have used it several times too. The bottle is getting quite empty now.
The bottle has a screw off lid and this is also what it stands on which means that even when the bottle is getting empty, the shampoo is still easy to get out.
I found that this shampoo made my hair softer but made no difference to the colour or shine. I like using this as although it is scented it doesn’t make me sneeze (which LOTS of scented things do), it cleans my hair and it makes it softer. However, I used the shampoo followed by the conditioner so I couldn’t say for certain that it was the shampoo that softened it.
~ Light reflecting conditioner ~
There is also 50ml of the conditioner. I used this each time I shampooed my hair and I was pleased with the results. I don’t think that my hair reflects the light after using this (and I don’t think my mam’s does either.) Only a small amount of conditioner is needed to smooth into my hair. My hair feels soft after using the shampoo and conditioner and sometimes it my natural waves look a bit tamer.
My mam says she likes using the shampoo and conditioner and has no complaints. This bottle also has a screw off lid.
~ Shine shock high perfecting glosser ~
There is a tube containing 25ml of shine shock glosser. I had had this set for ages before I first used this. You put a small amount on your hair when it is still wet. You just rub it in and leave it. I like using this, as it makes my hair feel really soft. I sometimes use this when I haven’t used the Brilliant Brunette Shampoo and Conditioner and it makes my hair nice and smooth. I feel that my hair is easier to manage.
Only a small amount is needed and a little goes a long away. I find if I put too much on my hair feels slightly sticky until it dries. I don’t use this every time I wash my hair, mostly because I forget. I do like using this though and I will probably buy some more when this one runs out. Despite the tube only containing 25ml, it still lasts a long time. I have used this quite a few times and it still feels really full.
The shine shock is in a small tube with a screw off lid. The tube only needs to be squeezed gently or loads of shine shock comes out.
~ Simply shine mousse ~
This is 50ml bottle. I already had a large bottle of this mousse so I keep this small one in my bedroom (the large one is in the bathroom). The bottle had a plastic lid which is easy to take off and the mousse is squirted out as usual. You don’t need to use a lot of this to keep your hair in place.
I use this both when I have my hair up and down. If I put too much in my hair when it is up you can tell I have mousse in my hair but it doesn’t look bad. I need to use a bit more when I put my hair in a ponytail or my hair sticks up all over! When I put some mousse on my fingertips and run it through my hair when I’m wearing it down, you cannot tell I have mousse in but it does help to hold my hair in place.
I like this mousse, it holds my hair quite well and it smells quite pleasant. It brushes out easily so if I have had my hair up and used this mousse and then I take it out, once it is brushed you can barely tell I have had any mousse in. However, if I use too much it doesn’t brush out so easily.
~ Fixing shine hairspray ~
There is also 50ml of the hairspray. This is a nice size to put in your handbag for taking out and about with you. The hairspray holds quite well at first but by the end of the day my hair looks quite messy. I still use this though; as it does hold my hair in place and it doesn’t look too obvious that I am wearing hairspray. The hairspray brushes out really easily.
The hairspray is easy to spray but the scent often makes me sneeze. I don’t know how to describe the smell but sometimes when I spray it I have a fit of sneezes. I often prefer to use mousse so this doesn’t happen but it depends how I’m feeling (allergy wise) and how I have my hair.
Both the mousse and the hair spray wash out easily with shampoo.
~ Overall ~
I really like John Frieda Brilliant Brunette products. I like this set as I it means I got to try some of the products that I hadn’t tried before. The full size individual items are quite expensive but I believe this set was only £10 from Boots and each item has lasted well.

Advantages: Hair smells fantastic and hair feels soft . Disadvantages: I suppose there are a lot of chemicals listed in this - but this is the same for most conditioners
