As professional hair care ranges are all currently on offer 3 for 2 in Boots, I decided to indulge my hair with some nice shampoo and conditioner. Glancing along the crammed shelf, my eyes were drawn to the deep blue of John Frieda's "readytowear" range of hair care products. Due to the dull flatness of my hair, I decided to go for the instant conditioner + shiner too liven in up, hoping for the "super-sexy suppleness" promised.
***What it's meant to do*** The conditioner
claims to do a number of things. Firstly, it will detangle and add shine to hair by moisturising it. Then is will condition (!) and help to repairdamaged hair. Finally the conditioner will add volume to make hair look full of life. Basically, in a sentence, the conditioner promises to turn even the most dull and lifeless mops into wonderfully shiny and beautiful hair.
***What it looks like*** The conditioner is in a squeezy plastic tube with a flip lid at the bottom. The tube is a lovely rich transparent blue colour with the white conditioner making the tube almost glow. The writing is in white and this contrast of colours makes it easy to read, even when you've used nearly all of the stuff inside. When placed in my white shower it looks really professional and expensive.
***The stuff*** I squeezed some onto my hand and it felt like diluted hand moisturiser. It was very silky and not at all greasy. It's quite a nice constancy as well, not so runny that it slides off your hand into the shower but not like rubbing wax into your hair. It smells very weird- I can't think of any way to describe it other than a mixture of fruit and sun tan lotion. This doesn't;t sound too appetising but it really is quite nice.
***Using it*** I squeezed some out and starting rubbing it into my hair. It felt pretty much like any other conditioner except my hair seemed to be absorbing more than usual, so I had to use more than I do normally to cover all of my hair. When rinsing, hardly any conditioner came out. However, after drying I had to again rinse my hair as it was left heavy and quite greasy because I had left to much in. But I learned from my mistake and the next time I used it washed my hair until it was left quite straw like. This seemed to cure the greasiness.
***The important question- does it work???*** I quickly dried my hair, eagerly waiting the results. Was I disappointed? No! My hair definitely had much more body and seemed to "bounce" when I walked. I actually felt like I could wear it down for once! It also looked much shinier and was stronger and seemed to be in much better condition than it was before using the conditioner. The smell lasted for a couple of hours but didn't remain for too long. But it didn't untangle my hair, it actually made it even worse! I had to hack through layers of hair (which hurt loads!) before I could even run my fingers through it. My hair started to look like its' usual self at about tea time i.e. it lasted for about ten hours. Did it deliver sexiness? Yes, even if I say so myself!
***Price and availability*** The conditioner costs £3.50 from Boots which I find to be quite reasonable for the 250ml you get. Yet it's still a bit much to be forking out every week just for one bottle of conditioner when I could get my normal shampoo and conditioner for the same price. I'll be stocking up on it with the Boots 3 for 2 deal but I don't think I'll buy it again unless it's on offer. The John Frieda range is available from most High Street stores so if you shop around you could probably get quite a good deal.
***Making it better*** For a start, they should change the flip lid at the bottom. This is because it captures water and creates a water/conditioner mess that spills out as soon as it's opened. Okay so this isn't so bad if you're in a shower but it does waste the precious conditioner. The price (as usual) could be lowered down by a pound to around £2.50 for 250ml. Finally, they shouldn't claim to untangle when it doesn't work.
Yeah the results are good but it won't be making a nest for itself in my shower.

Advantages: Makes it soft, sleek and manageble. Doesnt leave it flat unlike some other conditioners. Great Price, on offer at the moment 3 for 2. Disadvantages: Doesnt produce the shine it promises which is a let-down.
