Apparently the product is 'for natural, colour-treated, or highlighted blondes', however aforementioned friend has changed her colour from blonde, to brown to red and still continues to use the product! The product claims that it 'creates hip, chunky texture, lifts and loosens layers, bends and separates ends, hair looks flirty, fun and a little un-done'. Each ... ...a range of products from John Frieda, who also has a brunette and vivid red range, and is available from outlets such as Boots and Superdrug.
I was first given a bottle of this stuff about 2 years ago, which I promptly gave to a friend who is mad about all hair products. Why did I give it away? Well, I am a lazy so and so, that's why! I really cannot be bothered to spend any time on my hair, and since the age of about 12 I've had pretty much the same hairstyle - long and straight, with a bit of a kink which can result in a bit of frizzing- which has never really required any attention other than a wash now and again! About a year ago, deciding that it was really time to try and grow up a little I daringly (for me) decided to have my hair chopped and have some layers put through it. On leaving the hairdressers my hair was beautfil and shiny and flicked in all the right places, that is until I wash it myself, and find I have no idea what to do with my hair! So, I asked said friend what she thought of the bottle of Funky Chunky I had given her, and well, she hasn't been able tolive without it since! This coming from the queen of hair care was somewhat of a recommendation! It was a few weeks later that I was presented with yet another bottle - I am lucky - and I have never looked back.
The packaging----------------------------------
As you'll be able to see from the picture, the product comes in a frosted plastic bottle, with a nozzle at the top sealed with a screw on lid. The packaging bears the name of the product in black writing - John Freida Sheer Blonde Funky Chunky sheer veneer texturiser. Each bottle contains 125ml.
The product--------------------------------------
The product is a thick liquid, clear with a hint of purple. I can'r really describe the smell, other than clean, and smells rather like all other conditioners. The squeezy nature of the bottle and the thin nozzle at the top makes it easy to pour out the right amount, so non is wasted. This is one of a range of products from John Frieda, who also has a brunette and vivid red range, and is available from outlets such as Boots and Superdrug.
There are some pretty long names in this list, and I really don't want to know what they all are, as I suspect it would put me off the product. There is nothing to suggest that this hasn't been tested on animals and contains glycerin, so I assume it wouldn't be suitable for vegetarians to use, it would certainly be worth checking that out.
How to use------------------------------------
According to the bottle, the product can be used on either wet or dry hair. It suggests that using it on wet hair will result in pliable hair that drys to a high gloss shine. Using it on dry hair will result in a more choppy effect, as you can single out pieces of hair to sculpt.
My experience-----------------------------
I have used this product on both wet and dry hair. When my hair was in a choppy bob I tended to use it on dry hair. This way you can create a choppy and messy look, which is great if you have a lot of layers. You really do need a very small amount. I usually squeeze a pea sized amount of the product into the palm of my hand and then evenly distribute throught the hair. This does take a bit of time to do, and i would only really use this on dry hair if i was going out for the night. And it will certainly hold the style for a night or day. Now that my hair is down to my shoulders I have started using the product when my hair is wet. Again I take a pea sized amount and smooth it over my hair evenly. You can then either dry your hair on a gentle heat to create a smooth finish, or if you want some volume and a bit more 'choppiness' then i would dry my hair upside down. The product really does hold your style for a full day and will add volume if you dry your hair upside down. Unlike other gels and styling products, this isn't greasy in your hair and doesn't feel heavy. The only downside in my opinion is the sticky fingers you get when applying the product. You need to wash your hands immediately after using it.
Conclusion--------------------------------------
A fab product that means I can both style and condition my hair in one go, therefore I spend zero time on my hair, but it looks glossy and styled after only a wash, a tiny bit of product and a quick blast of the hair dryer!! My dark blonde hair also looks a little blonder, but I don't know if that's just cos it looks so clean and shiny because I haven't found that any of the other blonde products in this range make my hair look any lighter! A bottle retails at around £4.29 (and is currently in the 3for2 offer at boots), but as you only need a tiny amount for shoulder length hair, bottle goes a long way. I'm about a third through my bottle after 6 months.
Advantages: lasts ages, really great texture Disadvantages: very few
...Ryan. Apparently Sally Hersheberger from John Frieda designed the product on the set of 'You've Got Mail' specifically to texture Meg's hair (when she had that much copied textured cut). Whether that's true I don't know, but that's what my trusted copy of 'celebrity looks' told me at the time.
The magazine's since folded, but funky chunky is still going strong.
The product comes in a chunky, squeezy bottle with a good, fine nozzle that ensures ... ...get a good effect, so even though the bottle looks quite small, it lasts for ages. It's lilac in colour, which is supposed to neutralise the yellow / orange hue in a lot of blonde dyes. Saying that, I've know brunettes use this stuff too and it doesn't really make much difference. The texture is halfway between a gel and a cream, a kind of sticky, tacky liquid. But don't let that put you off. Because it's lighter than wax but more dense than serum, ...

...first that I bought was John Frieda Sheer Blonde ‘Funky Chunky’. I bought Funcky Chunky from Boots, I only bought one of the small bottles, and it just so happened to be 3 for the price of 2. So I got two other products from the same mini range, which I’m sure will be privileged to their own ops on here.
Anyway, the small bottle that I bought comes in 25ml and costs £1.45. Funky Chunky is a Sheers Veneer Texturiser, which I love the sound of! On the back of the little bottle there is some information about what you can do with ...

Advantages: Does the trick Disadvantages: Not many
I have dyed blonde hair which has been over heated with the straightening irons by far. My hair is graduated at the front, with a layer or two at the back. I have constantly tried various hair products to keep my layers at the front and back seperated so to speak, and to keep my hair looking styled for longer than the average hour or two which i have known. I came across a travel size version this product during a regular visit to Boots the chemist. ... ...full adverstised information. I am generally happy to try anything once (providing the cost is reasonable!)
A few days later upon doing my normal routine of washing, drying and ironing my hair, i remembered my new purchase was awaiting me! I applied a small amount into the palm of my hands as stated and applied to my dry hair at the ends of my hair. The results were great! However, i have the feeling that if too much is used, you will be left with ...

Advantages: lightweight, funky, gives hair an edge Disadvantages: sticky fingers after application!
It's like glue. Only for your hair. At least that's how my boyfriend described it. But as he thinks sticking his head under the tap is an acceptable styling routine. let's ignore his opinion.
I'm not blonde, but have light brown very fine hair. It's straight, straight, straight and gets flyaway to boot. Great! Anyway, I bought some Funky Chunky after having my hair cut into a chin-length layered bob; the nice lady at the hairdressers put wax through ... ...and ended up looking a bit greaseball.
I was looking for something that would separate my layers, add definition and above all, make me look cool! This is the product. It's easy to apply; a small squirt is enough for about a third of my hair. The dispenser is well-designed and you never end up covered in gunk or frustrated that you can't get any out of the bottle. I rub it between my fingertips and pull it gently through the ends of my hair. A dot ...
