As I was frantically racing through my town centre this afternoon trying to find a decent top to wear out, I ended up in Topshop. I HATE Topshop but still, I was desperate and figured that they might have ONE half decent top amongst racks and racks of tacky lace and frills.
No such luck.
Anyway, I noticed they'd started reducing their accessories towards the back of the shop and went over to see if they had a sparkly pink belt in the sale for me.
No such luck again.
What I did find was a hairstyling pack by John Frieda. The first thing I noticed was the huge yellow sticker on it - £1! It was worth further investigation. I quick look confirmed that there were three different packs availible: a Frizz Ease one, a Sheer Blonde One and a
Ready to Wear one. These are all John Frieda ranges. I reached for the Blonde one, being blonde, it seemed the natural choice! But since they were only a quid (reduced from £3), I picked up a Ready to Wear one too which is designed to thicken hair.
Oooops, haven't told you what's in the pack yet have I?! Because I've tried the Ready to Wear one and that's what this opinion is about, I'll tell you about that one.
Right.
In the pack, you get: ~Ready to Wear Thickening Shampoo ~Ready to Wear Instant Conditioner + Shiner ~Ready to Wear Shimmer Serum Ultra Light Glosser ~Ready to Wear Upbeat Whipped Styling Cream
Oooops, something else I forgot to mention, these are trial size packs! One use thingies. What did you think you were getting for a quid? Big bottles?!
Also in the pack you get a step-by-step styling book which takes you through how to use the products and style your hair.
**~~STEP ONE~~** OK, shampoo your hair. No surprises there. Apparently, the Ready to Wear shampoo contains ultra-light, body-building resins. Oooh, very scientific. It lathered up nicely and smelled quite nice - nothing really special. It didn't get stuck in my hair (I've had issues with Fructis where the damn stuff REFUSES to come out of my hair!) so that was a bonus! You don't need masses of shampoo - just use your common sense about how much. If you have short hair, you won't need to use the whole trial pack.
**~~STEP TWO~~** Ready to Wear Instant Conditioner and Shiner. This is meant to "add all-over gleam - without weighing fine hair down". Well, my hair's not thick but it's not fine either. Some 'experts' say to get a really good shine, after conditioning your hair, rinse it under cold water. BRRRRRRR. This has never worked for me, I wouldn't bother if I were you! Besides, all it said in my trusty styling book was 'Rinse thoroughly with warm water'. So that's all I did.
**~~STEP THREE~~** Supposedly to 'Detangle and Gloss Stage'. My hair was already nicely detangled from the conditioner but I had to follow my instructions! So when my hair was soaking wet, I put a few drops of my Shimmer Serum Ultra-Light Glosser through from roots to ends. This stuff is meant to "detangle as it smoothes frays, flyaways and split ends, plus eliminates static". This is just what my hair needed - something to make it look less flyaway (and to hide my split ends!!) Start with a few drops and build it up slowly if you feel you need it. Don't just slap loads on or you'll probably end up with greasy hair - YUK. So, hopefully, this magic potion would do the trick and I'd have a "high-gloss, high-glam finish".
**~~STEP FOUR~~** The blowdrying and styling! This is the stage which tell you if all the magic formulas have worked. Will I have clean, smooth, non-frizzy, beautifully sleek hair? To an extent, I did. My hair seemed to be in better condition and I would have done better to use a few more drops of the serums just to smooth out my hair a little more. All in all, I was pleased with the results. So far! Let's not forget I have't finished using all the products!
I didn't follow the blowdrying insructions. They sounded too fiddly for my who can't really style my hair at all! So I just blowdried it in my usual way. It was time for my Upbeat Whipped Styling Creme. I wasn't sure if this was really suitable for my long, straight (slightly layered around the front) hair as it says it's 'Formulated for lifting layers and creating modern, separated styles'. Ah well, I thought I'd try it anyway! Actually, it worked quite well. It's supposed to coat hair with a "barely-there" layer of water-based latex (more scary sounded stuff!) that makes you hair thicker and more pliable, easier to style and more shiny! I can always do with more shine! I smoothed a little on and it did do what it said (they do over-exaggerate a tinsy bit though!!). Yep, I was definatly pleased.
So that completed my hair make-over. DEFINALTLY worth a quid! I think I'll go back and try and buy a couple more!
What products will I buy? Probably the conditoner as it really detangled my hair. And I'd probably get the serum too - if I did buy this, it would last ages! You don't need much at all!
I wonder, how much would all this haircare cost if I decided to do it everyday.......?
~Thickening Shampoo 250ml ~ £3.50 ~Conditioner and Shiner 250ml ~ £3.50 ~Glosser ~ About £5 (sorry could only find the price in $!) ~Upbeat ~ About £4 (same reason - i'll update when I know properly!)
Well, I'm all setup for going out tonight - except I never did find a nice new top. Least my hair looks great!

Another excellent op but I'm afraid this product is wasted on me! Mike

I like your lively style of writing! I think I might try some of the thickener. I haven't got limp hair but I like to make it thicker than it is. So far I have only tried Wella, and it gets gunked up and lack-lustre - I'll have to see if I can pick up a similar bargain - I don't think my purse will stretch to £3.50! See ya! Lynn1310 xx
