Advantages: 'The Politics of Jesus' is an ideal 'desert island' choice for anyone interested in Jesus' engagement with politics. Disadvantages: This is not Yoder's best book. The chapters are of uneven quality and some have been fiercely controverial.
...For anyone who wondered if there was another side to the argument that 'Christians should stay out of politics', JohnHowardYoder's classic, 'The Politics of Jesus' is the logical choice. Yoder died in 1997 and in the years following his death there has been no shortage of attempts to sum up his legacy. He was a historian, theologian and ethicist, as well as spokesman for the Mennonite Church on matters of war and peace for many years. However, for many his best known book, 'The Politics of Jesus' remains the chief landmark of his productive life.
'The Politics of Jesus' begins with a simple assertion: that ways have been found to avoid the ethical and political relevance of Jesus, leaving the impression that Jesus' message was somehow otherwordly and 'spiritual' but hardly political. Yoder goes on to show how Jesus proclaimed...

Advantages: Literally brilliant Disadvantages: no noticeable faults
...Well written account of stupendous achivevemnts by the Ox and Bucks regiment under the command of JohnHoward far surpasses any achievement of american counterparts on D-Day(call me biased) adavantage of this book are that in previous books written by stephen E ambrose thay have always been written with an american perspective and emphasise and little focus on British achievements during world war 2. this book is completly focused on the cut throat raid at caen in normandy france in which johnhowards glider regiment had to secure a heavily guraded bridge crucial to the allied effort in moving inland on D-day to alleviate casualtys on the beaches and cover more ground. An extremley engrossing read, I couldn't put it down and I would rate it as on par if not better than Stephen E Ambroses Band of brothers. The book is clearly presented...

Advantages: Captivating narrating style, First person account of the period, Eye-opening Disadvantages: None

And so well paced, that you'll want to read thru it at one shot! Very unlike the other biography style of reading a chapter or less each day!
It seems so unbelievable that the author JohnHoward Griffin undertook such a risky and seemingly insane task of colouring himself Black during the 1950's and went down into South America to live among the Blacks and experience their life firsthand!! During his 6 week journey among...
