We had to choose new lights for our kitchen, it was a very difficult job, and so we went to john Lewis in High Wycombe. I bought them from John Lewis because I like the things they sell and I know I will have no problem with their standard of workmanship on goods and should I have a problem or wish to return the goods I will be able to do so.
John Lewis has a fair choice of lights. My kitchen is quite large divided into two by an island of cupboards making it a work area and a dining area this works well. We decided to put two lights attached to the ceiling in the dining area where we also have put 2 matching wall lights and in the preparation cooking area I would have 3 arch spotlights. 1 across the window area where my sink and drainer is and two of these arch lights over my food storage and preparation are.
I will tell you about the arch spotlights. Imagine a centre 15 cm square of a frosted glass that fits into the ceiling the electric fittings are in the silver box hidden by this square. From 2 opposite sides of this central square 2 curvy silver poles reach out about 50 cm they look elegant and classy give a nice line across the ceiling.
On each of these silver arches are 2 halogen spotlights lights these are in adjustable silver cup like fittings and can point in any direction. So in each fitting there are 4 lights.
The four, 50-watt halogen bulbs were included in the price of £59 replacement lights can be bought from john Lewis or I saw some in B&Q for £5.99 for a pack of 4 so I expect these bulbs are available in most electrical shops
I have some of these light bulbs pointed at my work surface to help illuminate the area when I am mixing a cake or preparing supper, they give a good light so I can see what I am doing. How easy were they to fit I hear you ask? Well We did not fit them ourselves we had an electrician who was doing other work so he fitted them I am sure if you had knowledge of electrics and fitting these would not be too difficult to do. As long as you remember to switch the mains of first.
When we bought these lights in John Lewis we took them home with us immediately we did not have top order them. We collected them from the collection point they were contained in a brown cardboard box, which we carried home on the back seat of the car. Opening the box at home we found there were instructions for fitting included.
I am very pleased with my lights they really make the room they are sexy, sophisticated, elegant, stylish, what more can I say? I love them.
Many thanks for your tolerance in reading my D I Y opps I know there have been a lot of them this month. Best wishes Mary

Sounds like you made a great choice. Glad you are pleased with it. I need new bulbs in mine but we are moving soon so we are not going to bother. We will leave it to the new ocupants. They might not even want them. I will consider looking at JL for my new house once we are there though. Many thanks. Chantal xx
