I have used baby powder of one type or another for as long as I can remember. But I always prefer to use Johnson's baby powder. I love the smell, the feel and the fact it seems to last for ages. I used it on my daughter when she was a baby as she was very prone to nappy rash and heat rash.
We used it, on the advice of the mid-wives, after bathing and before putting her to bed. I was told this helped to prevent nappy and heat rash. It certainly worked on her. I have always used baby powder, on myself instead of "grown up" powders, as I am prone to mild Eczema and always found the
perfume in the adult varieties made me sore and itchy.
With the cheaper versions of the baby powder I have used, I had exactly the same problem, which is another reason why I tend to stick with a product I know doesn't affect my Eczema.
Johnson's baby powder, for those who do not know, comes in a typical powder container, with a twist top with holes to get the powder from the confines of the tub. The container is white plastic with blue writing on the front, stating the brand, product, a statement claiming "clinically proven mildness" and the weight of the bottle in this case 500g.
On the back is the usual. Instructions for use, both on yourself and of course your baby, as that is in fact the real point of this product (the clue is in the title!!!). They also state that Johnson's do not make products for anyone else. Then you have the ingredients, in this case, Talc, perfume and that is all. Then there are contact numbers and a warning saying keep powder away from your children's nose and mouth. Close the lid after use and keep out of children's reach.
The usage instructions are as follows, and this is quoted from the back of the bottle:
"Best for Baby.
Sprinkle Johnson's baby powder on to your hands and smooth onto baby's skin. This creates a smooth friction free layer to reduce the effects of rubbing and chafing, to keep baby's skin smooth and soft.
Best For You.
Use after a bath or shower to keep skin dry, smooth and fresh."
I use it after a wash, a shower or after swimming, to ensure I am dry and feel comfortable. I will even use it to freshen up if I get hot and sticky, as it is very effective for this. I use it everyday and have never had any adverse effects from using it, for example, dry skin, rashes or soreness. Having such sensitive skin I feel I would have had a reaction by now if I was going to.
I feel it is good value for money, and at £1.85 for 500g and 85p per 200g container from Boots. Although, as with everything, you can get it cheaper from Tesco and ASDA's for £1.68 for 500g and 77p for 200g. Then you can also buy this powder in practically any shop or chemist. (Although the price will vary)
I have spent a while trying to work out how best to describe the smell of this powder, and to be honest I haven't come up with much. To me it smells sweet, fresh and like babies!! My husband on the other hand described it as smelling flowery! Either way, if you like the smell of Johnson's baby products then you will like the smell of their baby powder, as they all smell basically the same.
I would recommend this product to anyone, particularly parents with tiny babies. If like me you are prone to mild attacks of Eczema then I would recommend this powder. And I have used more brands and makes than I care to remember, Boots own brand not to mention Tesco and ASDA's own brands. And while they don't all aggravate my skin I just like to stick with a tried and tested powder I know I can trust. Over all I feel this powder is good value for money and lasts for ages, I use mine every day and I have only just replaced my old container, which was bought back in November last year. (Bear in mind please, that I always buy the large 500g bottle.)
Great review - I think the smell of Johnson's Baby Powder must be the one thing that's guaranteed to make absolutely everyone nostalgic. xx

Just an extra note... y'know how we were discussing is babies smelt of baby powder or vice versa. Babies also smell of white chocolate even if they haven't eaten any... weird!
