Well the bottle says "no more tears" and its supposed to be kind and gentle. Then of course there is that advert where the little brat (sorry I meant darling child) is whining on the phone to "Mr Johnson" about her Mummy using her shampoo. It made me start to think about trying this for myself, so I guess the advert worked. Of course now I also have a 6 week old baby, James, so this shampoo is a staple in our bathroom. Also because I do the shopping dear Dave (my husband) uses whatever shampoo comes to hand so he too is a “Johnson’s Baby!)

~~~ My Haircare ~~~
I have long permed hair and the basic problem is that my hair is rather dry and in need of attention. To this end I'm using regular hot oil treatments and intensive conditioners. I have to be a bit careful about exactly what sort of shampoos I use because I have an itchty, spotty, flaky scalp. I suffer from both Eczema and Serbhorric dermatitis on various parts of my body and also on my scalp. I should really use medicated shampoo but I hate the smell of the stuff. Because of these problems I have used a gentle Body Shop shampoo for about the last 10 years. Until I "discovered" Johnsons Baby Shampoo.
~~~ James’s Haircare ~~~
Being only 6 weeks old James doesn’t have a lot of hair but what he does have is a lovely dark downy covering which seems to be thinning on top and thickening at the back (sounds like a lot of men!). Because he has suffered a bit from “cradle cap” the skin on his head is very peeling and we have been treating this with olive oil. Needless to say the olive oil has left his hair looking a bit on the greasy side. This gives us the chance to consumer test the shampoo regularly before we take him out (otherwise we get oily marks all over his car seat/travel system).

~~~ Dave’s Haircare ~~~
Dave has a tendency towards greasy hair and washes his hair every 2 days with whatever shampoo falls into his hand. I’ve had him on wash and go for years because you can buy it on the pound stall in the market! He has told me though that he likes his “special shampoo” of course he was referring to the one bottle of Johnson’s that I bought especially for me and had been using the chamomile version on his dark brown hair. I told him it was for blondes and he has switched to the regular version which he likes just as much.
~~~ The Shampoo ~~~
Johnsons Baby shampoo is available in a variety of guises. There is a no more tangles version as well as a variety of different "flavours" (what is the correct term for a shampoo variation? – Answers in comments please!) which include Chamomile which is generally recommended for blonde hair. With this in mind I decided to buy the Chamomile version when I went to Tesco's, but they had the original on a buy one get one free offer and who could refuse that? Also the shampoo comes in a fairly large 500 ml bottle and costs less than £3 – I'm always keen on making a saving and this is much cheaper than your average "beauty" shampoo.

~~~ The Claims ~~~
The label on the bottle is quite small but does contain a lot of detail. Now as you know its got a "no more tears" formula, which means it should sting like hell if you get it in your eyes. The bottle also says that "you can rediscover your hair's natural baby softness" because it has moisturisers. Of course it mentions a couple of times that its OK to use on a tender baby and there will be “no more tears”. So far this has certainly been the case, James loves having his hair washed and there have been no tears, although we have been very careful and even for the purposes of consumer testing we haven’t got shampoo in his eyes!
~~~ Ingredients ~~~
There is little point in me going into detail here as the ingredients are the usual list of chemicals with long, unpronounceable, unspellcheckable names. I couldn't tell you if any of them are "nasty" as I'm no chemist and I didn't even do chemistry at school. The down side for me is that there seems to be little in the way of natural products in this shampoo and I like natural products.

~~~ Application ~~~
I'm a generous sort of person me, so I pour out a fair amount of shampoo when I use it. With the Johnson's I find that this gives me a terrific lather and there is never any need for a second application. Not that I ever have time for a second application. The shampoo rinses off quickly and easily and I don't feel like I have any "build up" on my hair. For James I just use a tiny blob and he also gets a nice little lather. Dave just slaps it in without noticing (Men!).
~~~ Results ~~~
After I had used the shampoo about 4 times I noticed that my hair felt a lot softer than it had in ages. It's also getting the shine back which had been gone for a couple of years. My hair looks and feels really healthy now, so hopefully this shampoo is repairing some of the damage I've done with perming, colouring and repeated blow drying. James has lovely soft baby hair, the kind we would all love but I think that’s just because he is a baby rather than anything to do with the shampoo. Dave’s hair is soft and shiny, I hate him for that!

~~~ The Bottom Line ~~~
This shampoo is reasonably prices and gives great results. It’s a well known brand which we all trust. Treat yourself and enjoy the results. Why should the babies/kids get all the good stuff when the whole family can use it?
Johnsons baby shampoo also makes a great body wash, I use it in the shower. Yes, I know they make baby bath, but the chammomile smells great and it leaves my skin very soft too!
