"Adult" meaning "grown up" rather than "porn" .... although as I'm sure GR-Design will tell us, it could have some uses there too :p

I only really use moisturizer in winter, the time when the least amount of skin possible is on show. I’m not particularly strange, though, it’s more to do with the fact that the sun tan lotion and aftersun I apply look after my skin – both figuratively and literally – in the summer months. Right now thought it’s November, and since I don’t live down under, than means it’s winter.

For years I used the white Johnsons baby lotion as an every day moisturizer. Then one day, shortly before a birthday (I think it was my 15th) I became obsessed with the idea of trying the pink variety. It was something to do with the gorgeous actress they had advertising it, waffling on at me from the TV about how it was not only good for her baby’s skin, but also for hers. I planned to buy some the next time I was shopping, but I must have mentioned it quite a bit at home because when I came downstairs to open presents on my birthday, there waiting for me was a bottle. That was about 5 years ago, and I’ve used it on and off since. I used to like applying it to my face as a cleanser, but then I figured out I could save the hassle of buying the cotton wool and the lotion, and of plopping just the right amount onto the circle, by buying Johnsons wipes which use the same liquid. Since then I’ve used nothing but these wipes on my face, but I still buy the lotion for the rest of me.

Why it’s just so bon:

· It smells, well, like babies. Or at least like clean babies. I don’t wear perfume and so, in a way, this has become my scent. It’s pure and clean and soft smelling, and I love it.

· It’s quickly absorbed. There’s nothing worse than having to sit for ages waiting for a lotion to sink in to either your skin or your baby’s, and with Johnsons this isn’t a problem. One clean sweep and it’s gone.

· It’s non-greasy so although it leaves you nice and soft, you don’t look shiny and you don’t feel like you’ve just been for a swim in a chip pan.

· It’s extra mild because it’s designed for babies. This is a great plus for me as it doesn’t sting if you rub it over open wounds. At the moment my arms are covered in mossie bites, but that doesn’t mean I can’t keep them moisturized at the same time

· The bottle has a flip top lid (all the better for keeping it in one place, namely on the top of the bottle – not rolling under a cupboard somewhere). Keep it snapped tightly into place and the lotion lasts almost infinitely. I’ve always used it up before it starts to go funny, even though I’ve had the odd bottle for over a year, forgetting to use it for months on end. Although the bottle carries a warning that as with most things, you should keep this product out of reach of children, the flip lid makes it harder for little hands to open, which is extra good

· The lotion’s pink, but it doesn’t stain. Pretty self-explanatory. Slap it on your baby’s bum, pin on a bright white nappy (because you’re all the type to use good, cloth nappies, aren’t you?) and you’re good to go.

· It’s extremely versatile – you can use it on babies and grown ups, on wet or dry skin and for a number of uses, from removing make up to cleaning bottoms.

· It’s hypoallergenic and allergy and dermatologist tested, so the likelihood of you reacting badly to it is low.

· Compared to “proper” adult moisturizers, this one’s a bargain. Why pay for L’Oreal or even Dove when you can get Johnsons for a fraction of the cost?

· The bottles – appropriately baby pink in colour, and made of plastic – are nice and plain, and look quite good in your bathroom. They say “I only buy the best” rather than “I buy Superdrug’s cheap own brand and put up with it” (no offence if you do the Superdrug thing. But while we’re on the subject, have you ever thought about trying Johnsons….?) The bottle I got over here came with a handy pump lid but I haven’t seen these back home. They’re also blue. So maybe Johnsons think all British babies are girls, and the Germany ones boys? Who knows.

· It’s everything rolled into one. There are lots of other brands out there on the market but each seems to fall down in some area – maybe they’re sticky, or they smell too disinfectanty or they’re greasy and take forever to sink in. They’re cheaper, of course, but you only save about 50p per 100ml. Once again it’s a case of quality being reflected in the price, and Johnsons win hands down.

Buying it:

Boots sell 500ml bottles on their website for £2.99, Tesco have it for £2.69, a mere 14p more than Boots own. Tesco Value stuff is available for 58p, but I still think it would be a waste of those 58 pence. Someone else try it and review it for me, ok? Back to Johnsons, and bigger and smaller bottles are also available, ranging from 300ml (£1.79) to something big that no website seems to stock (750ml? For something around the £3.99 mark? Perhaps).

In the newsagents I used to work in, we had a few bottles tucked away on a high shelf (never to be sold because I was too short to reach them….), and you can also get it cheap in supermarkets and petrol stations. If they stock just one brand, it’ll be Johnsons.

What’s it they say? 8 out of 10 Midwives use Johnsons on their own kids? If that’s not a recommendation, I don’t know what is.

I think they are going to update the baby range to appeal to the more grown up! Sal x

I'd forgotten all about this and have been wasting all my hard earned cash on expensive 'body-firming' creams (don't work). I'll be back to this from now on. Bog X
