I had nearly run out of my usual body moisturiser and was trawling the shelves of my local Morrison supermarket to see what special offers they could tempt me with. Then my eyes alighted on an end of aisle display of Johnson's Holiday Skin Body Lotion. The offer was for a double pack of 250 ml bottles of various different versions of this product for £4.99. I thought this seemed pretty good value as I usually pay around that for 500 ml of a basic moisturiser, so I stopped for a better look (not that easy as it was the Saturday before Christmas and the shop was heaving!)
There were several different packs there, one for day time moisturiser on light skin, one the same for darker skin and the one I finally chose which was night time moisturiser for all skin tones.
The claim on the bottle says 'Intense moisturisation overnight' and 'Gradually builds a beautiful, light tan'.
I had seen a number of different adverts for moisturising products which include a light tanning element and must admit I was intrigued. It's a sad fact of life that whilst winter skin looks pale, dewy and interesting when you're young, when you get a bit older, pale and interesting gets up and sneaks out of the window one night and her less welcomed, older sister, drawn and haggard slips back in. So, having decided that I needed a bit of a boost I decided to buy the pack and give it a whirl.
This was a bit of a leap of faith for me, as is buying any new beauty product as I do have sensitive skin and have spent pounds in the past on products that I've had an adverse reaction to. The latest disaster was in September when I tried out a well known rose scented shampoo and conditioner. The reaction was almost instant - my eyes started itching and within an hour had swollen so badly I looked like I'd gone 10 rounds with Mke Tyson and come off very much the loser! In fact, one of my eyes swelled completely shut and several friends were treating me kindly and with kid gloves until I assured them my partner had not suddenly become violent.
That night I did my quick run round the shower, dried myself and sat on the bed. I separated the two packs from the cellophane retaining strip and had a look at one of the bottles. It's coloured quite a cheery creamy, pearly yellow and the writing is in navy blue. The shape is quite a nice curved one which fits easily into your hand. The cap has an easy opening flip top which I flicked up with my thumb.
I did my usual thing of giving the bottle a gentle squeeze and sniffing the opening to get an idea of the smell. (Not something to be done too recklessly she said speaking from experience - there's nothing nice about getting a noseful of product!). Mmmmm! The smell is rather hard to describe but I'd say it has a hint of citrus, vanilla and floral in there. It's quite a sweet smell but not overpowering - very nice.
I turned the bottle up and gave it a squeeze - nothing. I gave it a sharp shake and squeezed again - success. A blob of pale, creamy yellow lotion about the size of a 10p piece squeezed into my palm. It's quite thick, not as runny as Johnson's baby lotion. I spread it on my lower leg and found it covered that plus the top of my foot quite easily. It spread very nicely and absorbed well. I carried on with the other leg and then my arms and shoulders. Then, feeling a bit reckless I decided to do a test patch on my face, even though it specifies that it's body lotion. The smell on my skin was very pleasant and my daughter even commented favourably on in when she came in to say goodnight. I washed my hands thoroughly as stated on the bottle and went to bed.
The next morning, the first thing I noticed was no itching or unwelcomed tingling anywhere, so I certainly hadn't had an adverse reaction to the lotion. I ran my hand over my skin and found it to be silky smooth and feeling beautifully moisturized - full marks for that Johnsons! Then I went to the window and checked out the colour - even after only one night I could see a slight but definite tan developing - full marks again. The only detrimental thing I could say is that despite thorough hand washing, the palms of my hands and the cracks on the inside edge of my fingers had changed colour slightly. I also checked my pjs and the sheets and pillowcases but found no staining on them.
On the second night I followed the routine of the first night but also used it on my face. I reasoned that if that didn't work out too well, I still had several days before work for it to wear off. I washed my hands even more thoroughly, using two handfuls of handwash instead of the one I'd used the night before. The next morning my skin felt even better, in fact the best it's felt for years, and the colour was slightly more pronounced, unhappily so was the colour on my palms and between my fingers.
On the third night I followed the same routine but used a pair of thin latex gloves whilst applying which didn't hamper the application but should deal nicely with the tanned palms problem. The next morning my skin was glowing with a healthy, pale gold tanned look. Not only that, but it had worked out well using it on my face too which is great as I hate buying two products when one will do!
So, to sum up this lotion spreads well and is easily absorbed. I haven't found it to leave any staining on my bedding and now my skin feels silky smooth and in better condition than it has for years. After only three days of using the product I have a pale gold tan which while noticeable to me would not be remarkable to someone seeing me after a few days. Therefore, I can wholeheartedly recommend this product to anyone wishing to moisturize their skin and look a little healthier during the winter.
I'll list the ingredients now, which don't mean a lot to me but may be useful to someone reading this review.
Advantages: Good gradual tan, easy application Disadvantages: strong lingering smell, can be a bit streaky if poorly applied

...I heard a lot about Johnson's holiday skin body lotion last year and was very dubious about trying it out. I have never been a lover of fake tans you can't deny some are really good but I am no good at applying them I get it everywhere and end up looking very streaky. However the more people spoke about this product I began to realise it wasn't actually a fake tan it was more of a moisturiser with added tanning ingredients. This really baffled me ... ...the very same thing as Johnson's holiday skin so I started to think maybe there was some good in this product. In the end I got sick of keep hearing about it and having my friend keep telling me I should use it instead of sun beds I decided to give it a go.

...in Superdrug I noticed that Johnson's had released one. It was on special offer and I quite like the brand, so I opted for this one. It is available in two sizes; 250ml or 600ml but I thought it wise to buy the smallest size incase I wasn't satisfied. I'm really glad that I did.
It comes in a slightly metalised yellow plastic bottle that stands on its end. It's quite pleasing to the eye and looked nice among all of the other products I had on the ... ...light tan all year round. Johnson's have added a small amount of tanning ingredient to their best body lotion. So whilst leaving your skin moisturised and soft all day, it also gradually builds a beautiful, light and even looking tan...". I decided to just apply it as a regular moisturiser and see what happened. The lotion is white, which doesn't make application easy as once your skin has absorbed it you can't see where you've already applied it. ...

***What I did and how it worked***
The body lotion comes in two different skin types - Light Tan and Medium Tan. As I wasn't expecting much of a colour from this I decided, to ensure a half descent result I would be really smart and get the Medium Tan for darker skin- who am I kidding?

I really love the idea of this product, so when I saw it on offer in Superdrug for £2.49 a bottle, I had to try it.
The first time I used it, I underestimated the strength of the product. In fact, you really need to treat it like fake tan. What I did was just slap it on like ordinary bodylotion. This resulted in a rather patchy end product. My hubby didn't notice, but I did. It especially bugged me that I had a streak on my arm, which must have been caused by some water when I washed my hands. The colour came up very well on my skin though, a nice glow, not even a hint of tango about it. The colour was especially nice on my shoulders.
The next time I tried it, I diluted it half and half with regular bodylotion. This did the trick beautifully, leaving me with a subtle golden glow. (OK, it was so subtle that hubby didn't notice ...

My mum first told me about it last year and she uses it to keep her tan topped up.I didn't bother as I had a healthy glow from the lovely weather we had.
