Johnson's, you let me down!
Advantages: Nice packaging Disadvantages: It dried out my sking and didn't give me a tan!
This has been the first self-tanning moisturiser I have used. I bought it after seeing it in a magazine, where it came out top in a consumer test for self-tan moisturisers. In general I trust the "Johnson's" brand as it is well established and I have never had any problems with it before.

I have never suffered from acne, but suffer from blocked pores and blackheads. I don't suffer from wrinkles (yet!), and I usually apply my moisturiser before foundation. I have quite a dark complexion.

My skintype I have normal skin, and can usually get away with washing it twice a day with a mild face soap. What I look for in a moisturiser I do not have any allergies or sensitive skin. My usual moisturiser is Oil of Olay. When I buy a moisturiser, I want: - To be able to apply it easily first thing in the morning and last thing at night - For it to go on smoothly - For it to be non-greasy - For there to be added SPF if it's summer - For it to be easily absorbed - For it to last between 4 - 5 months (I've had my current bottle since Christmas) - For it to be in a simple tube, none of this pump-action business! - For it to be good value (I don't usually want to spend more than £10)
The Moisturiser The packaging is nice and bright and a good shape to pop in your make-up bag or handbag. It's also well designed for you to get every last drop out of it (I'm well tight, I know!) There are three types available "Normal to Greasy skin", "Normal to Dry skin" and "Normal to Combination" which is the one I bought. (in hindsight maybe I should have bought "Normal to Greasy". Oh well, I'll get over it....! Personally, I think that that's a good range of choice, often you just get a choice between "Normal", "Greasy" or "Dry". The tube claims to provide "All day Moisturisation" and to "Gradually build a beautiful, light tan." I paid £5.99 for 50ml in Superdrug. That is more than I would usually pay but I don't find that extortionate for a moisturiser with added self-tan.
My experience My experience of using this was pretty negative. Although it went on smoothly and was easily absorbed, immediately after application, my skin felt rubbery and became more and more dry as the day went on. I used it for one week and amazingly (and annoyingly) didn't notice any difference in my skin tone. I haven't used the rest of the tube so I can't say how long it lasts; however my usual moisturiser is 100ml (and cheaper!) and lasts up to 5 months, so I'm guessing this would last half as long!!
The verdict Well basically, I didn't like how it made my skin feel and it just didn't give me a tan (however, I do always use moisturiser sparingly, so it could be that I simply wasn't using enough for it to work.) I have never suffered from dry skin, yet this GAVE me dry skin! I have friends who have used it in the past to top-up a natural tan, and it did the job: use it after a holiday to prolong your "Holiday skin" but for me, it won't work if you're not tanned already. I won't be buying it again: a big thumbs down.
Advantages: No more Pasty Face Disadvantages: Colour and pong
Johnson's Holiday Skin Daily Facial Moisturiser
What it does: A conventional cheaper moisturiser (ie not one of those which promises to remove/prevent wrinkles etc) which also slowly builds up over a few days to a tanned face, after which you can adjust usage accordingly so as not to get too orange. It is supposed to be subtle. Mine is for normal/combination skin - this implies there may be other versions but this is all I've found.
How much? I ... ...it in other high street chemists.
Manufacturer: Johnson & Johnson, the baby lotion people. Made in Greece.
Packaging: Standing plastic tube with "lid" on bottom ie not in bottle format as one pictured here (a bigger version?), within thin cardboard box Tube is a somewhat bilious yellow. Ingredients: I presume their usual basic facial moisturiser, plus small amount of self-tan chemicals. Ingredients are not listed on the tube - however, how would ...

Advantages: Gives you a subtle, even tan without sun damage Disadvantages: Bit smelly!
...not to touch anything!
Johnson's were first to market with their range, so I very trustingly indulged in a face & body lotion/ moisturiser.
The face moisturiser from Boots and is available in 2 varieties - Normal/ Dry or Normal/ Combination & costs £5.99 although at the moment on offer at £4.99.
So I gave it a go one morning. The box is very small & the bottle slender, so handy to fit in make-up bag/ travel bag. You don't need to put on alot...I ... ...the Tango police! The bottle is slightly squeezy and has a small opening so it doesn't all come out at once and is easy to control.
It smelt pleasant & fresh. I did my best to evenly apply it using upwards strokes (ive heard this is the way to go). It didn't take long to work into my skin & I made sure it was rubbed in properly as ive heard if you don't do this it could go streaky.
About half way into my working day I thought I could smell something ...

Advantages: reasonably priced Disadvantages: doesn't smell good
I purchased these products as a twin pack on special offer at £5. I had seen and heard all about it on tv. I bought it as i am not easily tanned and do not like to go onto sunbeds. I have always used johnsons products so assumed that it would be generally good. I was wrong, I read all of the directions about what to do before applying this product e.g exfoliate and so on, So i did twice over to make sure there was no dry skin. I applyed this product ... ...how it is going to turn out, It soaks in quite quickly so you think that you need to apply more incase you missed a bit. I done it all and let it dry went to bed and in the morning the first time of using this product i looked rather yellow, not a tan colour that i would like. I also had a few patches were it was darker then others this was obviously due to not knowing how even you are putting it on. I expected this to happen if i did not exfoliate ...

Advantages: quickly absorbed and erm it absorbs quickly :S Disadvantages: not for sensitive skin! doesnt smell nice, takes a while to tan
I've been a fan of Johnsons products for years, I have sensitive skin so their gentle products are usually a must have. In additon to this I'm a tan lover (it makes a girl feel better about herself) and I already own and love the holiday skin body lotion so I din't exactly need my arm twisting to purchase this, more along the lines of as soon as it came out I purchased it. The bottle is 50ml and is bright yellow, it has a screw on top and is more ... ...opposed to the one in the picture. Now onto the experience.
I personally think the smell is awful I've heard other people say it's not that bad but anything smelling that much of chemicals just doesn't fit right with me. I applied it before I slept and was filled with naive hope that I would soon have such golden glowing skin that I would never need any sort of facial cosmetic again, how wrong was I.
It soaks in so quickly I had to use quite a ...

Advantages: nice smell Disadvantages: weak, uneven results; no SPF
I tried this first in spring 2006 along with the corresponding body lotion. (There is another review on that in the appropriate section.)
Unlike the body lotion, it doesn't come in two colour intensities. Instead there is one for dry/normal skin, another one for normal/combination skin. It is available in 25ml tubes that are sold in cardboard boxes. The packaging is in the same pale yellow as the body lotions. The recommended price is £5.99, but ... ...Though the amount is small, it last quite long. You don't need to use a lot at a time.
I expected the result might be rather less intense than I would like because it isn't available for darker skin. So I would either visit the sun bed or use regular concentrated tanning gel on my face, and use this on the days in between. Even so, I found the results disappointing, which is a strange discrepancy as the body lotion is very good.
I tried the type ...
