This was the second time that I used a home hair waxing kit and was a little nervous at first. The last one I had used had made me bleed and removed no hair, so I hoped this experience would be better! The kit comes with 12 re-usable wax strips formulated with tea tree and aloe vera and also some Hair minimising body lotion for use after the waxing. I warmed a strip between my hands as instructed and smoothed it onto the skin. I pulled it off. However, even though it was easy to use, after trying and trying, I seemed to have removed little or no hair. I was quite disappointed! I had to go back to shaving, which is not very good at all!
Advantages: cheap, not as painful as others Disadvantages: Doesn't work so well, bad reaction to this product
, and whilst hairs are removed, I am still left with something of a five-o-clock shadow?my stubborn nature prevents me from returning to the salon however, so I am persevering to find the 'Holy Grail' of the facial waxing world?
Having become frustrated by the lack of results from the Boots own and Superdrug own waxstrips, I looked towards Veet. Great, I thought - here's a brand they seem to be the real deal, so I didn't mind paying up for the specially designed strips. Yet, whilst better than the Boots and Superdrug waxingstrips, they were definitely not brilliant. So imagine my glee when I was in my local chemist and stumbled across a pack of sixteen Jolen cold facial waxingstrips for £2.27; Jolen, a reputable brand, who by all accounts produce a pretty fine hair lightening cream. I thought this could be the answer to all my problems ...
Advantages: Good bleaching when left on for noted time. Disadvantages: Can burn and cause irritation.
I purchased my first set of Jolen Creme Bleach after it took me half an hour to build up the courage and will power to yank a waxstrip from my upper lip!
I bought the mild formula with Aloe Vera, as I have sensitive skin (therefore waxing also left my upper lip red for hours, even when I applied a cold compress immediately afterwards).
At first I was quite perplexed by having to mix up the accelerator and bleach myself, and carried out the test patch on the inside of my arm. What I hadn't accounted for was that it would also bleach my gradual tanning moisturiser! So I ended up with a lovely white patch (luckily on the inside of my arm, where no-one really looks anyway). However, I didn't react to the mixture, so I proceeded after 24 hours to apply it to my upper lip. The hairs there are quite fine, but as I'm quite dark-haired, and I ...

Advantages: Great results, very economical, lasts 2 weeks Disadvantages: Messy and awkard to apply, can sting nose/eyes
an old sponge and wipe it off everything with hot water. That usually works for me.
The results, you may be wondering, are very good. The hair is almost invisible, and is left very soft and smooth, and most importantly, bleached. Very much worth the effort. It lasts about 2 weeks and so if you think about it 10 minutes every two weeks isn't too bad. Much better than shaving, but obviously not as effective as waxing. Electrolysis for me is too expensive. I think Jolen is a very cheap m ethod of removing or disguising hair.
Jolen comes in two sizes. Small for £4.25 or large for £9.25. I buy the small and it lasts for a good few months. Very cheap indeed if you compare it to buying razor blades and shaving gels or facial waxingstrips.
You can also use Jolen to bleach your eyebrows (this must really sting), and your arms and legs ...
