Joop Homme Aftershave

I think it is time to have a go at reviewing a fragrance today. I first had a go at reviewing CK in 2 U shortly after joining dooyoo a year or so ago, and it was painful for me, but hopefully a year on this may be a little easier.

Joop Homme, Eau de toilette first came to my attention some 14 years ago as a present from my parents. At the time I really liked it, and I used to wear a splash of it for work each day. A year later, when I left that particular job, I was quite surprised to read things like ‘All the best Joop Boy’ and ‘Best wishes for the future Mr. Joop’ in my leaving card!!
The reason behind this is almost undoubtedly the very sweet, strong and unique scent that Joop gives out, making it instantly recognizable to most people.

The scent is officially described by Joop as ‘The first burst of cool, fresh spiciness from bergamot and cinnamon unfolds into a subtle, warm floral woody body’.
To me, now that I have matured a little bit from my younger days when I used to regularly wear Joop, I would describe it as a very feminine scent, verging on that of a female perfume, mainly due to the very, VERY sweet scent. I have actually known a woman who used to wear Joop from time to time!
One thing to remember when applying this aftershave, is that it is very strong, and so it only takes a tiny amount, to make you smell like ‘Mr. Joop’, and the scent lasts for days, and days.
This aftershave definitely has a very ‘woody’ feel to it, and it can become a little overbearingly heavy if too much is applied. The dark and musty fragrance does in-fact irritate me a little bit nowadays, and makes me feel a little itchy.

Joop is a dark purple / pinky colour solution, and the colour is easily visible through the clear glass bottle in which Joop is packaged.

In terms of price, Joop generally retails at approx £25:00 - £30:00 for a 75ml EDT, but can often be picked up on special offer for around the £20:00 region.

Joop have also sinced launced Joop Go and Joop Jump, which are also very brightly coloured fragrances, but the scents of both are a little bit calmer and less obvious than the original.

My Overall Opinion:
Overall I still like a little bit of Joop from time to time (which is a good job really, as my parents still buy it for me at Christmas!). The smell is very overpowering, and so it is important to only use this in very small amounts. The scent lasts for a very long time, and so for around £20:00, a bottle of this stuff can last for years if used correctly in moderation, and so is very good value in my opinion.
