Jos achieved two podium finishes in this year, but he was far outshone by Schumacher who won five races that season. Jos has never returned to the podium since.
After ... ...due to financial difficulties. Jos only managed to get one result this season.

After leaving Bennetton Verstappen never managed to get a big team contract again. He nearly did in 1999 when Honda recruited him for the new team they were starting up. The developemnt car looked good against the other cars, but after the death of the project leader Honda teamed up with BAR and Verstappen's services were no longer required.
In 1995 Verstappen joined the Simtek team which unfortunately for him had to fold half way through the season due to financial difficulties. Jos only managed to get one result this season.

Some people say that he is a good driver but was never noticed for it is because he started off as team mate to Micheal Schumacher. In my opinion the reason Jos has never driven for a big team since his Bennetton days is because he just isn't talented enough.
Jos recently hit the news by making scathing remarks about his team mate Enrique Bernoldi. He called for Arrows to sack Bernoldi at the end of the season. He said that Enrique was good in qualifying but not no good in the race. He also said that he was the worst team mate he ever had. I think these remarks are due to jealousy. Bernoldi out qualified Jos in the last race and also beat him in the actual race. Jos was behind him and battled really hard to overtake him but just couldn't do it. These comments are really uncalled for as Bernoldi has always been nice about Verstappen.
If I was the Arrows boss I probably would not have renewed his contract. I would keep Bernoldi who has showed potential and is getting to be a visibly better driver as the season goes on. I would get rid of Verstappen as he is about ready for retirement now and give his contract to Alonso who there has been talk of joining the Arrows team.
In 1994 Jos had a big scare when his fuel pump set on fire in the pits at German grand prix. He was lucky to esacpe from that.
Verstappen is married with 2 children, Max and Victoria. He nearly went to prison once when he fractured a man's skull during a fight. He was lucky and got let off with a five year suspended sentence. He calls himself Jos the Boss, a title which few others use, if anyone.
As to the question of when will he be famous, I would say the answer is NEVER.

...his best result. 1999 saw Jos rejoin Arrows and was a complete disaster, Arrows with chief Tom Walkinshaw expected better when trying to develop there own V10 engines, however the costs and reliability issues left the team struggling to even outqualify the Minardis and occasionally didn`t!
Since Orange came on board in 2000, Arrows have looked up and claimed decent engines to line them up midgrid and even pushing the top teams, verstappen making ... ...seems to have and often running top 6 in the early sections of races in 2001.

...Eddie Irvine at the start, Jos drove like a man on a mission. At the restart after the dubious safety car period he ran as high as second, and looked as though he was going to put some pressure on David Coulthard. This performance certainly made the decision to get up early to watch the race a good one on reflection. Although there is no magic in F1, and there was always the realisation that it couldn't last and the Arrows would fall back, seeing ... ...in similar changeable conditions, where Jos was outbraking rivals all over the place. Herein lies the problem; two good performances a year can't justify a seat forever. Having been thrust into F1 in 1994, Jos was involved in a controversial barrel-rolling incident in his first race which resulted in Irvine been given a 1 race ban (increased to 3 on appeal). ...Holland. But the best is Jos Verstappen who is currently knocking about for Arrows in the Formula One world championship. Regarded as 'Jos the Boss' in his native Netherlands, Verstappen has had a most up and down carrer. So up and down in fact it makes Blackpool rollercoaster look like it was designed with a ruler. So how can a driver from a country who cares about motorsport as we care about American Football become part of the most elite of drivers ... ...racing. It wasn't long before Jos was watching the F1 managers clambering over themselves to get him to put pen to paper. Jos needed some time to decide so in the meantime he took some thinking time - driving for the Footwork team for the last 3 rounds of the 1993 F1 world Championship. He jumped into his seat and drove like a demon to qualify for his first ever GP with ease and almost out-qualify his team mate. Bearing in mind Verstappen's F1 experiance ...

Verstappen started his Formula One career with Benetton in 1994, moved to the doomed Simtek a year later and first drove for the Arrows team in 1996. He changed to Tyrrell for the 1997 season was out in the cold when Tyrell plumped for the dubious driving talents of Ricardo Rosset and the vast sponsorship he brought. He moved to Stewart to replace Jan Magnussen midway through the season but never really took his chance with 12th his best result. ... ...for Honda Racing Development, led by the late Harvey Postlethwaite. His debut year with Benetton was by far his most successful as he collected 10 points but four teams down the line he added only one further point. Popular Verstappen boasts a 13,000-strong fan club but he has not given them much to cheer about since his Benetton days. This is partly due to him never staying with a team for more than a year and mostly not possessing the right equipment ...

Why do teams persevere with Jos Verstappen??? After unsuccessful periods at Benetton and Stewart he is back at Arrows. I firmly believe Arrows are going places except with Jos its normally the gravel trap. I must be missing something because year after year, Verstappen gets himself a drive and does nothing. I could drive around in circles for 5 million a year with out scoring points if they want me to. Same as Jos does. I remember that terrible Hockenheim ...

The British-based Arrows team have had a lengthy period in the doldrums since they were a poorly funded team and despite producing attractive race cars they were not deemed competitive. They were regularly expected to be among the back markers with the likes of the Minardi team.Even getting a point would be considered an achievement.
It is now beginning to look as though there is light at the end of the tunnel for the hugely popular Oxfordshire-based outfit. Funding has been secured from several sources and recently the Arrows got a very good fifth place at the Canadian grand prix. JosVerstappen driving a very good race to collect two valuable points. Their other driver Pedro De La Rosa looks to have a good future and these two drivers as a pair are good enough to win more points,providing the team can increase their reliability ...

competing in the US-based Champcar (CART)series,where he drove for the Penske team in 1999 and the factory Swift team in 2000.
Scarcity of money means Minardi has great difficulty in designing a really competitive car and this will make it difficult for Tarso to shine. However, it will be interesting to see if the young Brazilian can make an impact this season and
perhaps have some good mid-order scraps. In th first free practice session in the Malaysian GP at Sepang,Tarso gained 16 th fastest time which put him ahead of the likes of Juan Pablo Montoya, JosVerstappen,Enrique Bernoldi, Jenson Button and Alonso Fernando. He certainly has now accumulated a reasonable degree of experience and a number of Formula I enthusiasts rate him highly. Time will perhaps be the best judge! ...

Advantages: Good Driver Disadvantages: Some contoversy surrounds him
Enrique Bernoldi started driving for Arrows this season after test driving for Sauber for two years. He started off as most formula 1 drivers do, in karting, where he notched up many wins. He also drove in formula 3000 during which he didn't make any historic wins.
He comes from Brazil and aspires to be as sucessful as other Brazillians, Ayrton Senna and Nelson Piquet. However he still has a long way to go. He has yet to score points for Arrows which is his ambition for this season. This is no small task. Formula 1 cars differ greatly in potential and the other Arrows driver JosVerstappen who has many years of experience in formula 1 driving has only scored one point this season, so no-one called say Bernoldi was a bad driver solely if he didn't manage this.
Bernoldi is improving as the season goes on. He hasn't finished ...
