In these ‘war-torn’ and terrorist threatened times, it’s more important than ever to ensure you have Insurance when travelling abroad. OK So maybe the days are behind us when you had to take out the Travel Agents recommended (and stipulated) Insurance in order to get that great deal on a holiday, but plenty of companies charge way too much for cover.

Peace of mind, of course, because as sure as eggs are eggs, the one time you travel ‘uninsured’ that’s when you’ll have an accident, or fall seriously ill, or lose all your valuables and luggage…or of course, worse.

I’ve been going on holiday abroad for well over 20 years now. I’ve never once made a claim under a Travel Insurance policy – never once! So why do we have to have them? Peace of mind, of course, because as sure as eggs are eggs, the one time you travel ‘uninsured’ that’s when you’ll have an accident, or fall seriously ill, or lose all your valuables and luggage…or of course, worse.
I used to work in a Bank many years ago and would take the Staff discount and go with the Bank’s own brand policy. Then after various companies taken out on a per trip basis, I took out an annual Worldwide insurance with the Portman. This cost me £99 for Full family cover for a year. With my sons too old to travel with us any more, I searched the net last year to see what else was on offer and came across an excellent deal from JOURNEYWISE.
They are little known Website that offers cheap, but comprehensive and well backed Travel Insurance. They also advertise (very small) in the quality weekend and Sunday newspapers too.
If you go to their site it’s pretty ‘understated’ – no bells and whistles or flashing lights. Just plain, simple and uncluttered.
You can get an instant quote (it says in “under a minute” and they are not lying) for Economy Cover or Supercover. Just click on ‘get quote’, enter the details of your journey and who you want covered. Say for example my own experience. I want ANNUAL Cover, WORLDWIDE for a couple, my Wife and I. Subject to confirming you are Residents of the UK, Under 65 and in Good General Health, you move on to the next screen. Click on Multi Trip (or individual or extended stay)…World Wide (or Europe)…Self and Companion – enter your proposed start date for the policy and click ‘continue’. Hey Presto just £63! That compares pretty well to a quote my son got for his ‘All-Inclusive’ trip to Morocco earlier this Summer with just himself and his girlfriend – that was £35 EACH and just for the fortnight.
You can check and select the level of cover you require on the same screen too. On my proposed Annual Multi Trip Insurance
MEDICAL EXPENSES are covered up to £10,000,000 PERSONAL ACCIDENT up to £100,00 PERSONAL LIABILITY of £2,000,000 LEGAL EXPENSES £50,000 MISSED DEPARTURE £1,000 PERSONAL BELONGINGS £2,000 TRAVEL DELAY £300 Etc
So who are www.journeywise.co.uk? They are part of AIG Europe (American International Group Inc)
You can get an immediate Quote – Pay over the Internet by Credit card AND then they will email you your Travel Policy
Quick, Efficient, Inexpensive and reliable – check them out before you sign up with any other company
Advantages: Easy to use, cheap, quick and delivers a great product at a great price Disadvantages: Some people may be suspicious of online insurance policies
I would thoroughly recommend Journeywise if you need travel insurance in a hurry. You can easily obtain an instant quotation for an individual, couple or family by going to their website www.journeywise.co.uk . There is no obligation to purchase and quotes can be easily re-worked using the ‘Back’ button on the web browser to enable comparison of various options. Journeywise provide both single trip and multiple trip insurance cover, for ... ...as well.
Initially I was a bit confused by the difference between ‘Supercover’ and ‘Economy Cover’ but this is actually quite well explained on the website. Basically, Supercover provides more cash benefits in the event of a claim, for example £10 million for medical expenses as opposed to £1 million for Economy Cover, £1 million rather than £500,000 for repatriation, £2 million for personal liability rather than £1 million ...

Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: none that I can see
Now some of you might be aware that I'm finally going to get to meet a very dear online friend when I attend her wedding in Pittsburgh this May. Flights have been booked and next in line was that all important travel insurance. The bargain hunter in me wanted some thing very cheap but not stingy on the cover. Especially not on that miss departure cover - the eternal pessimist in me has this phobia about missing planes, trains and other forms of transportation. ... ...if I'm not sitting waiting at the Station some 30 minutes before departure. For anyone who has to use Kings Cross Station the cappuccino in the pub isn't too bad!
After hunting on Google, I got quotes for the 11 days varying from £63 to £24,with some great cover and some laughable cover. I was nearly going to give up when I thought one last click and went to take a look at www.journeywise.co.uk.
Journeywise is a UK based company, trading under ...
