Nearly All About Julie

Advantages: Interesting read
Disadvantages: Nothing about her recent times

That's Another Story is the autobiography which has been written by Julie Walters. Julie was born in 1950 in Smethwick in Birmingham. She had a happy childhood and starts to book by telling us about growing up and all about her family. Julie talk a lot about life at home with her parents and what it was like when her Grandmother came to live with them. She feels that she learnt a lot from her Grandmother and that is why she is so good at playing the old lady parts. Ellie

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

In Ellie, by Lesley Pearce, it is centred on two girls, Ellie and Bonny. The two girls meet in post-war Britain in London, and though in character they are the very opposite on one another, they become friends. Ellie is a loving, kind, sweet natured brunette with a sparkling smile, while Bonny is a beautiful but spoilt blonde, who can be deceptive in many ways. Both were separated from their parents during the war as evacuees, and meet after the war has ended and set about making a life for themselves in the glamorous but ruthless life of the theatre. As their friendship continues, Ellie has to face lots of lies and deception from Bonny, but she always abides by Bonnie wishes, no matter how painful they are to herself. I really enjoyed this book, but found the last few chapters a little unbelievable and didn't find them true to ...

Review of Ellie - Lesley Pearse

Love in Cuba

Advantages: Interesting insight into life in Cuba
Disadvantages: More depth required and an extended last few chapters, as it appeared rushed.

Background: At my work they have a scheme were by people who have finished with a book, bring it in and exchange it for another. Recently I exchanged one of my Donna Leon novels recently for this novel. I fancied a change of author and a different type of novel so I picked up this one, in the hope I would enjoy it and if I didn?t what had I lost. About the author: Julie Ellis was born in Columbus in America in 1933 and died in February 2006 of a stroke. In a long and successful career she wrote 57 novels. Writing under two other names Susan Marino and Susan Marvin. The book am I reviewing was one of her last written published after her death in 2007. Synopsis of the book: Chris Sanchez is a newly qualified Paediatrician in a local Hospital in Havana, Cuba in 1994. He is becoming frustrated by the lack of money ...
