Just Dance 2

Our family recieved some Wii games for Christmas this year and this was one of them. We were especially excited about getting this one because we already had the first game in the series, and we loved it, and we had been waiting all year for the this one to come out.

Normally you would expect a second version of something to be better than the first, well I would anyway. We thought this game would be just like the first game, but with added features and we thought that it would be more advanced. Unfortunately though, even though this does have added features, in my opinion the features that have been added aren't very good, maybe my expectations were set too high but I was disappointed. Also the songs on this one are nowhere near as good as the songs from the last game, which were exciting and really got you dancing. This is only in my opinion though so someone else might think something completely different.

Idea of the Game

I'll explain for anyone who hasn't heard of Just Dance, or who doesn't know what it is, what the concept of this game is.
Basically, you can have up to four players, and it is a bit like an exercise DVD, in that there is someone dancing onscreen and everyone playing has to copy the dancer, as though it is their mirror reflection. The dancer is animated and normally they are dressed or coloured in a way that matches the song they are dancing to. Everyone's scores add up depending on how well they are copying the dance onscreen, and it can sometimes get competitive, which makes it all the more fun!
Some games are really slow, and easy to follow, but others can be a bit more upbeat, and quicker so therefore more difficult to do.

I loved the songs on Just Dance but unfortunately I didn't think there were any really notable ones on this game. On Just Dance everyone seemed to like at least 75% of all the songs but on this game there are only really one or two that stand out to me and the rest of my family.

There are more songs than the first Just Dance had on it, but personally I think the songs that were on the first Just Dance were much better dancing tracks, and had much better choreography. Maybe someone else would think differently though, but if you are thinking of buying this I would recommend checking the song list from the first game as well and seeing which songs you like best as the first Just Dance is cheaper.

When you choose a song, you can now 'sort' through them; you can order them alphabetically etc in order to find the one you want faster. This is something you couldn't do on the first Just Dance.

You can also choose 'Medley' and 'Duet Medley'. This is when you get given a random song and it keeps changing song as you dance. This is a handy feature if you're playing against your family and no one can agree on a song choice!
The lyrics to each song run along the bottom as its being played, so you can sing along too if you choose to!

Some of the songs, when you choose them, have two people dancing for you to copy instead of one, and they both do different sets of choreography. So say if there were two people playing, player one would copy one of the animations and player two would copy the other one. It tells you clearly onscreen which one you need to copy and its not complicated at all. This is a new feature that you couldn't get on the first Just Dance.
I think this is an OK feature but I'm not overwhelmed by it. I think it would be better if you could choose out of all the songs on the game which songs to duet on, as you are only able to duet on certain ones.

Overall Thoughts

Overall I was disappointed with this game. If you've never heard of or played on Just Dance then I would definitely recommend the first one, but I think if you bought this one first then it might put you off buying the first one altogether. Its like the makers of the game have taken advantage of the fact that people have high expectations and been really lazy with some of the choreography.
I could moan for ages about how boring some of the choreography is. On certain dances especially, for example, 'Big Girls You Are Beautiful' and 'Cosmic Girl'. For most of these two songs you are standing around waiting for something to happen!
On other songs though the dances are quite good, my favourite is 'Wake Me Up Before You Go Go' - but as far as longevity goes, I'm getting slightly sick of hearing that song already!

Imagining there was no first Just Dance, I would probably be really impressed by this game. But I just think personally that the first game was better and didn't need any changes. So I would give this game 4 stars overall. It is a good game, its just overshadowed slightly for me by the first.
