We are to have a nice family portrait taken for Christmas and as I looked in the mirror a rather grey haired old man was staring right back at me. Now don’t get me wrong I am quite proud of my portly figure and the twinkle in my eye but it was as if I had realised for the first time how grey/white I had gone. This portrait was to be special so what should I do I asked my daughter. Dad she said the time has now come to put a little colour on your hair. The late Leslie Crowther used to dye his hair, as did Jacques Villeneuve so I didn’t feel too effeminate having made my decision. The children giggled and I just growled at them. I had a look at the web site and was very excited to find how to turbo change my love life. Goodness and all from dying your hair I can’t wait. I have to match my hair to the shade on the box but I may have the wrong one as the pictures show from brown with grey flecks to nearly grey with brown flecks. This is a medium brown colour dye. Ho Hum should I continue after all I am sat here already stripped to the waist and I have some old towels ready. The house for once is empty as granny is shopping so I am going to do it just for you Ho ho. Well the instructions look simple enough to follow and there are two little bottles now sat in front of me so I will proceed with the dyeing. Now I am ready to apply this thick dark gunge to my hair. I will say first that this application is to be performed by Norman who has no professional colouring experience. I have to make sure I get the dye right down to my roots, lather it up and wait just five minutes.
Back now to wash my hair. I should explain I only have a little hair but it does cover my scalp. I look like a toffee apple at the moment so I will only be a moment while I rinse it off. I am going to take five years off my age according to the manufacturers. I am back now and Norman is not a happy granddad at all. Shall I say I look similar to Quinten Crisp? Please don’t it is rude to laugh at other people. My beautiful brown hair I was expecting is in fact Orange. Not just a ginger shade of orange I mean full-blown Orange. I will finish this review now as I am going into panic mode. Granny is due back soon and she is going to kill me. Trish is that offer still open for me to come and do your garden for a week. ...local Tesco: Grecian 2000, and Just For Men. I decided on the Just For Men, as it was a shampoo-in permanent colour. This meant that it would only need to be applied every 6 weeks or so, whereas with the Grecian 2000, you need to apply it several times a week, and (horror) leave it on your hair.
The Just For Men kit is contained in a small cardboard box with a cheesy picture of a smiling, all-American type of guy on the front. Think clean-cut but ... ..."Just For Men" is, well, just for men, as this looked pretty identical to every hair-dying kit I have ever purchased for myself. The instructions advise you to do an allergy patch test 48 hours before each application to see whether you are allergic to any of the ingredients, but of course, hubby didn't bother to do this; fortunately, he didn't have an adverse reaction, and has now used the product several times without any problems. ...nowadays the colour is not just for fun but to minimise the impact of my greying crowning glory...
It all began when my sister started her hairdressing apprenticeship - she needed someone to give a colour, I volunteered. Later, I was also her first perm (hey it was the 80's!! if it was good enough for Starsky and Hutch it was good enough for me)... anyway my first colour went quite well and I enjoyed the way it seemed to rattle the establishment.
... ...One day I wanted to just blend away a bit of the grey and the only place available was the supermarket - I tried Just For Men and was sadly disappointed. This is absolute BLAND city!! The colours are insignificant and it seems this product is designed with very feint-hearted men in mind. It seems to have been created for the man who is deluding himself more than others and just reeks of fashion conservatism - I wouldn't be surprised to find button-up ...

...do, but please don’t use just for men unless you know how to create a look that doesn’t look false.
Just for men comes in a range of colours for about £7 depending were you shop.
Natural Light Brown Natural Jet Black
Natural Real Black
Natural Medium Brown
Natural Dark Brown-Black
It is easy to use, shampoo in rinse out and there you have it a full head of block coloured hair, block and false. (Women can tell)
I know these colours say they ... ...2ins wide and very thin just to paint your hair here and there. (If your brave go to a beauty counter to buy one)
I find this next bit hard to explain, but I will try, for instance when the box says real black. Blacks come in different shades red back or blue back, but when you put that on your hair it is black with no tones and looks totally false (women do have a laugh and say old man dyed hair, false teeth)

I have only used this product once on a gentleman that had varying shades of brown and grey, to the point where he was almost white at the back and on the side burns. The colour he chose was a dark brown and that is exactly what he got.
There were no patches and the hole head was the same shade which suprised me given the differnt shades he had naturally. I don't recommend that you apply this stuff to yourself though because it runs and boy does ... ...is more than sufficient for a man with short hair, particularly as men with grey hair don't always have full head coverage. Maybe it would be better to reduce the size of the bottle nad the price with it.
TOP TIP Scrub off any excess on the skin and check dripping frequently because even with an exfoliating cream it does not come off straight away. ...
