...gravy. I tried another sip just to make sure…same again. I gave it a stir…nope still quite nasty. Left it to stand for a bit…naa, still not anything like a cup a soup! All the heavier ingredients sank to the bottom and I had to pour this down the sink.
Another glance at the packet, and the ingredients don’t sound that appetising -Tomato Powder, Potato starch, Pasta, Carrot Granules, Onion Powder, Leek Powder, Spinach Powder, Celery ... ...single sachets so I didn’t have to throw a load away! I’m usually a big fan of cup-a-soup so in my search for all things organic I picked this up from the ‘Out of This World’ supermarket in Beeston. It’s vegetarian too (not that I am but it’s handy for you folks who are). My usual choice is Batchelors and even some of the supermarket own brands are pretty reasonable. Unfortunately these are not always vegetarian and non I know of are organic. I was really surprised then to find an Instant soup that would be more virtuous than what I usually have.
To be honest I thought I would enjoy this soup – my favourite flavour ‘minestrone’ and all to soil association standard. Maybe it would be better than the others because of this. The instructions were very standard – put in cup, add hot water and stir til your arms ache.
Hmm..on first impressions it looked like a muddle puddle with bits of finger nail in it. It tasted..gritty.. um…like I imagine soil would taste if it was served in very weak gravy. I tried another sip just to make sure…same again. I gave it a stir…nope still quite nasty. Left it to stand for a bit…naa, still not anything like a cup a soup! All the heavier ingredients sank to the bottom and I had to pour this down the sink.
Another glance at the packet, and the ingredients don’t sound that appetising -Tomato Powder, Potato starch, Pasta, Carrot Granules, Onion Powder, Leek Powder, Spinach Powder, Celery Powder, Garlic Powder. Powder, Soil, it all tastes the same to me!
Bring back slim a soup all is forgiven! This is quite pricey considering the quality - I paid around 40p more than for standard soups.
My organic ambitions thwarted again!
For those still wishing to give the product a go it has 283 cals per 100g (Each packet is 20g) and 4.1g of fat.
Luckily unlike Cup a Soups you can buy single sachets so I didn’t have to throw a load away! Tey also have a similar shelf life to non organic versions. Oddly Just Wholefoods offer a recipe sheet if you write to them. I’d like them to provide one called – ‘turn this stuff into drinkable soup’!
