The KEF KHT 3005 is a 5.1 surround sound speaker system, which consists of one large subwoofer and 5 individual speakers. Subwoofers simply allow you to playback low bass frequencies at high levels. Without a subwoofer you may not be able to listen to some sound from a video or an audio program or file.

All KEF speaker systems including this one use Uni-Q technology in order to produce high-quality and concentrated levels of audio output. The single Subwoofer and the 5 individual loudspeakers (tweeters) work together as a single audio output source so that sound is dispersed equally around the entire room.

The subwoofer and the individual loudspeakers interlink their sound output to cover the entire room in order to allow experience of sound from anywhere in the room. But you have to consider how you arrange the speaker system. For optimum sound efficiency you can not place any 1 speaker behind a physical object (e.g. behind a sofa) as this will interfere with the balance of the sound output.

For a typical room you can place the Subwoofer and 1 loudspeaker together and the 4 remaining loudspeakers in each corner of the room. This in turn increases the surface area the audio output covers, which ultimately means that you can enjoy a movie or any audio file from anywhere in the room. You obviously have to make sure each speaker has a clear view of all the other speakers and that there is no obstruction between the speakers.

To avoid any obstructions you can buy speaker stands, which place the speakers above any possible obstruction and thus boost audio efficiency. However, speaker stands are very expensive and you can choose to strategically place furniture in the corners of your room in order to place the speakers. You can even install mini shelves on the corners of your room for the speaker system, installing the shelves at ear level when sitting down is ideal if you want to experience the full power of the KEF KHT 3005 speaker system.

This particular speaker system is wired, which will obviously give you the trouble of hiding the wires in order to make your room look good. A possible solution to this can be to run the wires along your skirting boards and then painting them the same colour as your skirting boards as to camouflage them from visitors. If you have carpet installed in your room then it is even easier to hide the wires, all you have to do is simply slip the wires under the carpet. And if the wires are visible on the walls of your room you can either paint them the same colour as your wall or place the same colour tape over the wire.

In my opinion I think that this speaker system is very good and the quality of the sound output is very good. The only downside to the KEF KHT 3005 is its price, it may be due to the technology it uses to produce the sound or maybe because its British, WHO KNOWS? There are loads of 5.1 speaker systems out there which can be purchased at a much cheaper price with comparable levels of high quality sound output.

I do not recommend this speaker system to anyone simply because of its high price and will cause you to lose money if bought. However if you have spare cash to spend, and lots of it then maybe this is a good solution for you. Since this particular speaker system has been out not much price depreciation (price dropping) has occurred. Many other 5.1 speaker systems have dropped in price, like many of Logitech's 5.1 speaker systems, which can cost as low as £140.

Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed my review of the KEF KHT 3005 speaker system.

I agree that logitech do do brilliant 5.1s. A friend of mine owns a set for around £150 and they handle HD sound perfectly. His Sub is hidiously big.
