I have always wanted a surround sound system and as a special treat I decided to buy the Samsung HT-XQ 100 for £200 from my brother after he opted to upgrade to a super flash top of the range plasma television that came with a suitably high priced set of kit.
I cannot comment on the instruction manuals as they didn't come with the speakers thanks to my absent minded sibling. What I can vouch for is the ease with which the speakers are hooked up and ready to pound the eardrums.
The system is made up of 6 speaker. 2 are tall as you can see from the product picture and these are placed behind your regular sititng position, with the two smaller speakers sitting in the corners in front of your seating position. The wide speaker sits in front of the television and I have the sub-woofer positioned just above on top of my DVD player. The speakers don't really take up that much room and the standing speakers have little claws on the bottom to help them cling more securely to the carpet and have not to date (touch wood) fallen over.
The speakers have a total power output of a whopping 500w and when cranked up when watching concert DVDs the volume is simply overbearing to the point that I think my ears are bleeding and the neighbours put their house up for sale (I'm not kidding). At lower levels the sound quality is fantastic but strangely eerie with even the slightest of sounds on a DVD being picked up and thrown around the room.
As the system has a HDMI port with the appropriate cabling a PC can be connected allowed the playing of MP3 files through the speakers. I now prefer to use this rather than my CD player due to the excellent sound quality that picks up every rift and beat of the drums.
Normally selling for in the region of £300 I would be happy to buy any system but think I've got a real bargain for a system only 8 months old.
