I got a Kodak 240 for Christmas 1999. I have used it extensivly and found the camera to be quite exiting really. There is a LCD display on the back where you can change the options for taking pictures. Your main changes will be for the resolution. I brought a 8MB and 10MB cards for the camera to store the pictures. The main reason I brought two of this size was for holidays abroad where I would get no chance of downloading them, and then using the cards again.
Before taking pictures it would help to know what you want to do with them. If you are creating a web page, or want to send them by email, turn the resloution down and the size (both physical and memory wise) will decrease allowing the pictures to be send far quicker on the WWW.
If however you want to print them, go to a higher reslolution and the pictures will be really good, looking just like a 35mm print at 5" X 7". Any larger and the picture will deteriate a little.
I used the camera on a cruise, where of course the salt air, and heat can affect cameras, I took a 35mm camera as well just in case, but when I downloaded the pictures on my computer I was extremly happy with them. The camera stood up to the climate with no effect on performance.
I put some on the WWW for my family in other parts of the country, and world to see which made it a boon.
There are lots of extra options you get with the camera, it has a good size zoom, you can put effects onto the pictures, date stamp them. Review them just after taking a picture, or doing a complete review later and deleting the bad ones, giving you memory space back again.
The camera comes with rechargable batteries, and a charger which you will need. I found that when uploading the pictures to a computer (cables all supplied, and software) the batteries drain fast. Kodak do a mains adapter but this costs £59.99, very expensive.
