Living in the middle of rural France, I find that the car gets filthy in Winter. There are all kinds of obstacles between me having a clean car, and not, like cow droppings, trails left from tractors, rain, etc., and all the nasty things that make my bright blue Twingo look dull and lifeless.
When I bought my power washer, I thought about all the uses that I would put it to. Cleaning the walls, cleaning lichen from the barn roof, cleaning the car, cleaning dirty welly boots, and I was totally confused by all the specs that were available for these wonderful machines that either do or do not clean the things that you want to clean.
An apologetic salesman showed me rather a lot of Karcher cleaners and I was baffled about the choice. I had no idea what the "bar" reference was all about as most of us don't but the salesman explained that that is all about the pressure of the water and that for the jobs I had in mind, the 20-135 bar would be the best.
I took his word for it, and I am glad I did because the pressure of the water is quite important, as sometimes, you do not want full power, and at other times, full power is the only thing that matters. It was hit and miss when I started using the machine. I got wet a few times, but now that I am accustomed to using it, and know what it is capable of, I would never be without this machine. My twingo sparkles because the amount of power is just right for all the rural stains that my car is subjected to.
On less power, I can clean walls without taking all the pointing out !!! and as for the lichen, well the machine made quick work of it.
This is a 2.5 Kw machine and not too thirsty on electric which was good. There is a limit to the heat of water that you can use in it and this is 60 degrees but being tight fisted, I have never used anything but cold water so this is no an impediment.
I like the length of the hose which is 9 metres and adequate for my needs. It is all rolled onto a central cog, and one of the nice things about the Karcher is that it rolls easily on two wheels and when wound up, stores away not taking much space at all.
A neat detergent tank means that I can use soapy water, or in fact when removing lichen, I can use a liquid specified for that purpose in with the water, making the wash even better.
The nozzles that come standard with the Karcher are handy and I interchange for different uses. The brush is superb for the car, but I tend only to use this after the initial clean up of country residue as it is super for the final clean.
Compared with everything else that I saw on the market at the time, this machine is the best that my money would buy. I lost the product manual the first week believe it or not, but was able to download it from their site which was extremely handy. Karcher.com
Well, is it value for money ? Yes I would definitely say that it is. It keeps the house looking clean, cleans the patios, cleans the car, and driveway and does everything I hoped it would. At the equivalent of £160 it was well worth the money and the time saved.
Performance wise, I cannot fault it. I can fault my initial use of it, but that's just a case of getting used to a new tool. Had I had the sense not to lose the instructions, and had followed them from the word go, I would not have had the difficulties that I had, but being a stubborn woman, I learned the hard way.
As for maintenance, I always clean out the detergent hole before I put the machine away because I believe that to keep a machine in tiptop order then you should regularly clean it, and it has never let me down yet.
For the less experienced users of Karchers, I cannot emphasise enough the importance of reading the manual, after which, use is simple.
