Advantages: Excellent detail, inventive plot Disadvantages: Couldn't put it down
...This is the debut novel by KarenSlaughter and the second I've read. It's disturbing in parts and while some may say the detail in the more gruesome parts is unnessicery, I feel it only adds to the atmosphere the book creates. The detailed forensic scenes are fascinating and it's full of shocks and plot turns that mean you cannot possibly put it down untill you finish reading.
The plot is original and gripping, although I did feel there were some aspects that were not fully explained but get the feeling that some of these things may be covered in subsesquent books.
Overall I would definatly recomend this book to anyone who has an interest in crime thrillers, as long as they don't have a nervous disposition- I'd be lying if I didn't keep looking over my shoulder the night I finished it....

...I have only just "found" KarenSlaughter and really can't get enough of her books. Faithless continues with Sara Linton (medical examiner) in Heartsdale and her ex husband Geoffrey Tolliver, Chief of Police for the county plus of course Lena Adams, who has only just returned to the force after experiencing a traumatic experience in "Kisscut" one of Karen's previous books.
Sara and Geoffrey take a walk in the woods only to stumble upon a pipe sticking out of the ground, which leads to the body of a young girl buried in a box. After performing the autopsy, Sara is convinced that the girl has been poisoned and literally scared to death. This in turn leads to a religious cult (very much a family organisation) who run a farm and take in everyone who has "needs". Abby is the girl who has been killed, but once her younger sister Rebecca...

Advantages: Gory Disadvantages: A bit pants really
...Until recently, I was a member of Mango, a fairly useful book club type thingy that is seriously aimed at us laydeees. This is chick lit central, but they do have one or two offerings that might actually stir your brain.
I thought this initial contribution from KarenSlaughter might be just the deal. Firstly can I say – what the hell is with that name?! I apologise to Ms Slaughter profusely if that is indeed her real name, but if not, what are you playing at love? It’s a bit, well, obvious isn’t it? You may have guessed that KS writes mystery/murder novels from that little outburst. She is being lauded as the next Cathy Reichs/ Patricia Cornwell, but I’ll give you my verdict of that after a run down of the story:
CHARACTERS
Dr Sara Linton is what would probably be described as the heroine of the piece. Hmm...

Advantages: Good competent crime thriller Disadvantages: Couple of holes in the plot
...Indelible by KarenSlaughter actually tells two stories within one book however the events in the present story are linked to the one set in the past so there are a series of flash backs to allow the reader to make some sense of the present day goings on.
When two heavily armed gunmen burst into a small town police station both medical examiner Sara Linton and her former husband police chief Jeffrey Tolliver are caught up in the cross fire. Tolliver is left seriously wounded and a number of his fellow officers are dead, Linton is left as one of the hostages along with two other police staff and a few school children who were on a school trip. It soon becomes apparent that this is not a random attack but a carefully targeted one against Tolliver however the identity of the two killers is a mystery to everyone. The second story takes...
