Upon moving into my house nearly a year ago my partner suggested that we get kardean flooring on our lower ground floor. I had never before heard of this brand so decided to investigate it further, I visited the brand website and from there ordered samples of the designs I liked. It took about a week for the samples to arrive and I also received a brochure explaining benefits of this product and showing the full range available.
We decided to go for woodplank from the Knight-Tile Range in the Sienna colour which is similar to a natural rosewood look. We made the decision to have the planks laid diagonally in the centre of the floor with an eight inch border which was laid at a 45degree angle to the central section with a silver strip in between. This give the advantage of making the rooms look larger and the warm colour gives a rich homely feeling.
Karndean is a cutomised vinyl flooring which replicates natural forms of flooring without the recognised
drawbacks. With it being a form of vinyl I have also found it is very much warmer than other products such as laminate. It is suitable for any room including bathrooms and conservatories and it is hygienic as it will not hold dirt and bacteria. We have found that this brand is also durable it has not chipped, splintered or cracked and extremely hard wearing, other products such as wood or laminate(which I have had in the past) can be very noisy whereas Karndean is quiet underfoot and with a 1year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier in the house this is a great advantage. It is low maintenance, as opposed to natural flooring products this will not need sanding or repairing.
All the ranges within this brand have differing features, attributes and durability but all are suitable for any rooms within the home.
Karndean is supplied in either planks or tiles in various sizes the ranges include -
Knight-Tile
Knight-Tile designs are Slate, Stone, Ceramic, Marble and Woodplanks. Colour options within this range include Onyx, Cedar and Arctic.
Michelangelo
Michaelangelo designs are Mosaic, Metallica, Spanish Pebble and Antique Timber. Colour options within the Michelangelo range include Venetian Blue, Bleached Pine and Atomic.
Renoir
Renoir designs are Fuego, Slate, Glass and Woodplanks. Colour options within the Renoir range include Mercury, Pecanwood and Glacier.
Van Gogh
Van Gogh designs are Barnwood and Grandewood. Colour options within the Van Gogh range include Burnt Ginger, Bracken and Copper Gum.
and
Da Vinci
Da Vinci designs are Antique Ceramic, Stone, Ceramic, Celtic Slate, Pewter, Roman Marble and Woodplanks. Colour options within the Da Vinci range include Desert Clay, Pearl and English Elm.
All ranges are supplied with a guarantee the length of which is dependant on which range you decide to go for.
In addition to these ranges Karndean also offers a range of Borders including Geometric, Retro, Wave and Aztec. They also supply metallic and feature strips which can be laid either between tiles to create natural grouping effects or to add further design aspects to your floor, these can also be used to create a divide between the border and the rest of the floor as we have done.
Features are also available, these are the perfect way to add a centre piece to your floor. These are custom made and are available in most colours designs include Stars, Dolphins and Suns. We did not go for a feature in our lounge or kitchen but I may decide to put dolphins on my bathroom floor if I'm feeling adventurous.
As I said at the start of my review we have now been in the house just over a year and the floor has been down for most of that time, we have had no problems with maintenance or durability.
I feel that the design and colour we chose for our ground floor is perfect as it enables us to have a fairly neutral decorating scheme on our walls without the room looking bland.
Prices are dependant on range and size, our project which include hallway, lounge and kitchen cost in total approximately £2500 including fitting. It took about three days to complete the floor and was fitted by a registered engineer.
We did receive a care pack when the floor was complete, which is now coming to the end of it's life this included a basic cleaner and stripper which is used to remove any traces or glue once the floor has been fitted, a dim-glow floor protector which adds a slight polished look to the floor and also a protective sealant, a routine cleaner and several applicators. The pack also included furniture protectors so heavy items like couches do not harm your newly polished floor. These packs are also available to order from the website or your local retailer.
Overall I would definately recommend this brand to anyone who is interested it is easy to maintain and there's no need for a hoover!
Just a quick update, my partner has now started to supply and fit Karndean Flooring.
Should anyone be interested in a quotation please leave a comment and i will get back to you alteratively you are welcome to use my guestbook.
