This review isn’t for techies. I’m an ordinary PC user and am simply relating my experience of anti-virus/security software in general and how I came to the conclusion that Kaspersky is the best on the market. I don’t go into detail about the workings of the product as I’m not an IT expert, I just know what works for me.
I think it’s difficult for most people to choose between one Internet security programme and another. Some years ago I started with Norton/Symantec because I was told by a friend who knew a bit about computers that it set the industry standard for computer security. I had no complaints until it gradually made my computer slower and slower and eventually made it grind to a halt.
On the recommendation of a man in a computer shop I switched to Panda. I was reliably informed that it had minimal impact on system resources and my PC would work fine and it did until my PC became infected with something and Panda couldn’t cope. On balance I would have preferred that it used slightly more of my PC’s resources to protect my computer effectively.
For my third attempt at security software I decided to choose one myself. I didn’t do a great deal of research and chose F-Secure for reasons I can’t recall. I think I liked the name. It resolved the problem that Panda couldn’t fix and I was happy until my PC became infected with something very annoying that kept redirecting me to random web sites. F-Secure didn’t seem to think there was a problem with this.
On this occasion I decided to use it as an opportunity to test just about every piece of free or trial anti-virus software I could find and researched why I might be getting redirected. I found a lot of useful information on various forums, complicated procedures to solve the problem, recommendations for free and trial security software that would identify and or resolve the problem. I tried many other programmes recommended by techies like Dr Web CureIT, AVG and about half a dozen others I can’t remember now. A number of them superficially resolved the problem but then it would come back even after trying all the recommended tricks. The only programme that resolved the problem simply and permanently was Kaspersky. A name that was recommended over and over again on the forums I looked at.
On this basis I changed my security software to Kaspersky permanently and am very happy with it. It’s simple to use, does everything a piece of security software should do and I understand that it has the highest detection rate for viruses etc of any security software provider. It’s got an odd name and for some reason doesn’t sound like the kind of product you would use on a personal computer. I would probably never have found it or considered it if I hadn’t been trying to fix my PC but I’m so glad I went through the process because it showed me how bad many other security programmes really are in comparison.
Next time you’re due to renew I would change to Kaspersky.

Quick review of Kaspersky Internet Security 6
My experience with Kaspersky IS7 was mercifully brief yet exquisitely painful. And I'm not even into that kind of thing.
SUMMARY: Support abysmal. Never got it installed, so no idea whether it works.
Read favorable review, bought, tried to install, had several hiccups , took an astonishingly long time to download updates. Locked up during reboot. "Temperature rising."
Uninstalled, restored, cleaned up, tried again, same result. "Patient has a fever."
Support phone number? No. E-mail support? Long form, painful instructions. Press "Send" At end: "expect 48-hour response." "Must cool patient immediately."
Unresponsive "response," asked for a call, another non-response response. "Patient is comatose."
Kaspersky support: "dead on arrival."
Happy Ending: Installed AVG Antivirus. See following review.

message would appear again, inexplicably. There didn't seem to be any direct cause, it just happened after a while. However, last week, on perhaps my fifth reinstall, when I installed Panda InternetSecurity 2007 I was unable to connect to my wireless router. This of course meant I could not update the program, which rendered it useless. Enough is enough, I thought, and fully uninstalled the program with no intention of reinstalling it.
I have since spent £40 on KasperskyInternetSecurity6.0 and have so far been very impressed - there is no 30-second wait on boot-up, updates run smoothly and quickly, and the program has superior detection rates and update frequency. It is more expensive, but in this instance it looks like you really do get what you pay for.
Why is Panda InternetSecurity 2007 plagued with these problems? Is an update ...
