The product I am reviewing is the 15ml 'Kate' Eau de Toilette, I received the fragrance as a Christmas gift. This is the new perfume range from top model Kate Moss. Kate is the current face of Rimmel London cosmetics. The venture into the world of fragrance in conjunction of Coty, is a first for Kate Moss and like many celebrities these days an endorsement of a fragrance or cosmetic range is an extension of her repetoire. The fragrance was introduced to the
UK fragrance market in the autumn of 2007.
Eau de Toilette v. Perfume:
Eau de toilette is a lighter, more delicate fragrance, with a 4-8% concentration of the perfume essence, and is most suited to everyday use. It is generally less expensive than Eau de Parfum, and the fragrance should last for 2 to 4 hours. Eau de Toilette is an excellent way to layer your fragrance, that is to say using several products in the same range, such as shower gel or body lotion in conjunction with the actual fragrance A perfume on the other hand consists of a 15-30% concentration of perfume essence and is the strongest fragrance available. This means that not only do you need to use less, but also that the fragrance lasts longer, typically for up to 6 hours. Naturally these figures are dependent on the skin type of the user.
Packaging Description:
The eau de toilette comes in a feminine pink box, decorated with a black rose and trailing foliage and the name 'Kate Moss' in lower case script. The perfume inside is presented in a somewhat dull bottle. The bottle has a slightly tapering base with a bulbous top. The pink perfume visible through the clear glass, is attractive enough as is the black lid with silver trim, however I feel a little more imagination could have produced a much more striking bottle. The bottle also bears the super-model's name. In all honesty, I consider the packaging and presentation to look a little cheap and tacky.
The Fragrance:
The eau de toilette itself is a curious mixture of sweet, floral and sandelwood notes. It has a slightly old fashioned scent to me and the floral overtones of lily of the valley and rose first hit your senses followed by an almost sensuous patchouli, sandalwood, musky undertone. It is a fairly complicated frangrance and the advertising blurb describes it as follows:- 'Kate Moss' fragrance captures the two sides of Kate: the good Kate and the bad Kate'. This is a fair suming up of the fragrance , it certainly has two sides to it, on the one hand, floral and feminine, on the other, sensual and earthy. Whether that is a fair comment on the supermodel's character depends on whether you believe all you read n the popular press!
Storage:
The Kate eau de Toilette like all fragrances should be stored out of direct sunlight, or in its original box to help it retain its scent. If you keep a bottle of fragrance upopened in a cool and dry condition, it will last a long time, however, once opened it may gradually change.
Cost and availibilty:
The product is widely available, obviously as mine was a gift I am unsure of the exact price or where it was purchased. I did a quick search on the internet and found it on Amazon for £12.99 for the 15ml size, it is also available from Boots, Debenhams and various other High Street and internet retailers.
The Range:
Other items in the range include Eau de Toilette 30ml, Eau de Toilette 50ml, Body Lotion, perfume, shower gel and gift sets.
My summary:
I liked this fragrance, I found it light enough for everyday wear although I did not think the scent had as much staying power as most eau de toilettes. I would not buy this for myself as I feel although it is pleasant it is not altogether my usual sort of perfume. My opinion is that it would probably be better suited to a younger woman, afterall I am pushing 50 and not in Kate Moss' league! That said, fragrance is a very personal thing and what suits one person may not suit another. I would advise a would be purchaser of any perfume, to try out a tester in a High St outlet before buying, as perfumes will react differently on various skin types.
