Advantages: fast, torquey, badge of honour, superb Disadvantages: not for the faint hearted
I have only had it a week, so this can be an ongoing review (maybe). After much umming and ahhhing I traded in my ZX9R and RVF 400RR (which I miss badly!!) and stumped up another grand to get the 12R.
Its an X reg so its full power (pre 186mph legislation). Its also that lovely Kawasaki Green. It came with braided Goodridge hoses which provide mucho stoppo when needed and a Rhencullen undertray, which has tidied up the arse end nicely. The OE screen has gone and there is a green double bubble to keep the wind over me. A carbon fibre rear hugger keeps the crud away from the rear shock and a nice little Scottoiler keeps that chain lasting "6 times longer". A good deal I thought.
Missing one thing though... Blueflame Evo 3 Titanium Oval exhaust. £260 from the great guys at Taz Motorcycles. Now we're talking. Putting ...

Advantages: Powerful, fast, good looks Disadvantages: heavy, long reach and long legs required
I purchased my 1993 ZX-7R from Lings in Harleston for £2,000 about 4 years ago.
After cutting my teeth on a VFR400R (an absolutely gorgeous bike) I thought it was time to move up to something a bit more powerful. At the time I weighed 13.5 stone, despite me being short at 5'7".
Due to my weight I thought I needed something that was at least 600cc (the 400 started to struggle pulling me!). I had always liked the KawasakiZX's. The 600s were a bit out of my price range but I found this American imported ZX-7 on the Lings website.
I called and booked a test ride for the following Saturday.
When I arrived at the shop the ZX was already parked out the front with a full tank waiting.
The first thing I noticed was the dimensions of the bike - it was huge. Kawasakis (especially the older ones) always seem to be big bikes. When ...

Advantages: Reliability, cost, engine. Disadvantages: Brakes, front end handling.
and smooth!
The handle bars are upright and feel good to use offering plenty of leverage.
The front fairing is a bit lacking in wind protection, it looks like it will do a great job....but sadly it doesnt! and seems to direct wind to my face!
The tank is a decent size and holds about £14 of petrol, and is a good shape allthough the reserve tap is very fiddley and hard to turn whilst riding.
The seat is pretty comfortable and i have managed 300-400 miles easily, and my girlfriend is more than happy to sit on the back, as the seat and footpegs are good.
The rear shock is average, the action is good and it has proven to be reliable.
The rear wheel is 17 inch and tyres can be braught for as little as £65 new.
The chain and sprockets last approximately 12,000 miles if youre fairly easy on them, and there pretty hard to change if im ...
