hi there i have owned my zxr 4 about 7 months now and love it so far. i am always asked what its like on long rides, im 29 and 6 foot 3", and ride 70 miles a day to work and back! yes it hurts for a few weeks on the wrists and then you get used to it. ive only been riding a few years well 2. so far ive owned a cbr nc23, cbr nc29, vfr nc 30, and a rvf nc 35 in my opinion there all very much the same the zxr i love and its a tiny bit bigger but i doubt it would make a difference as for performance all are for good for 400`s but wouldnt go for the nc23 cbr had lots of problems inclueding brake disc brake and look the front wheel at 60 on a round a bout (but is was a crap not looked after bike) so im not saying its a problem with that model. after riding the cbr`s for a while nc 23 and nc29 then moving to the zxr i found the zxr much more forgiving for a new rider you can lean over more without even thinking about it plus its light(dont drop it its still heavy to pick up from the floor). my g/f at the time had a sit up and beg 400 bandit which is also a good bike but it depends on what u want it for and what u use it for! the bandit would not keep up with any of these bike in the bends or the straight. im sure you have heard about the head gasket on the zxr yes it is a problem but it depends on how you ride and how you look after it. i brought my zxr with 22,000 on the clock and after 700 miles the head gasket went i brought it from a main dealer and thay didnt want to know, just for the head gasket was 600 quid which as far as i know is ok maybe a bit to much but had some gasflowing and some cams done while the engine is out. but from what i know and heard 20,000 miles change the head gasket and cam chain. sounds like im slagging it of now but im not do expect to pay some money to keep it on the road! i brought mine (all the bikes) for a cheaper way of getting to work but thay cost 10 for 70 miles and so does my car but the bike is more fun and you look forward to getting on it. hope this helped in some way and dont be put off by the head gasket! oh forgot as for the rvf was a lot of fun not sure if its quicker or better in the bends but i think its a loon bike if you like tht kinda thing lol all of this is my opinion from my bikes
