I have not wrote a review for a while on here,so I thought i'd give it another go. I must admit I havnt achully picked up a book for a number of years and after getting back into the swing of things by reading 'Wuthering Heights',I decided that I'd give a book a go that didnt drain me of every tear I had to cry,and would be a little more 'easy reading'.
I picked up 'Keeping it real' on Ebay for 1.60p,which I thought was quite a bargain,as if I hated the book then it wouldnt be a great loss. I also thought that the title 'Keeping it real' was a bit of a laugh due to the way Jodie looks!..sorry! I achully take that back though after reading it thoroughly.
You may wonder who Jodie Marsh is?,Well shes basically a girl thats famous for partying all night, having strings of relationships with celebrity men and basically rivalling Jordan in the 'How much flesh can you flash'? stakes.
This book promised to be juicy reading, and it certainly was. Its split into 26 chapters spanning over 342 pages, although I think the hardback
version is longer because you get photographs of her and her boyfriends in that one.
Here are a few examples of the chapters..I dont want to give much away!!:
Baby Marsh: This is pretty self explanatory,it tells you where and when she was born and about the early stages of life. She is brought up by her parents who are very rich, but are self made, who teach her to have respect for others and how to behave approprately. It also tells you about her first boyfriend and her first sexual experience and how she genuinly loved this boy/man,with all her heart.
Broken: This details the terrible extent of bullying that she witnessed as a child. Many people..including myself will think that Jodie has a terribly mishapen nose. The truth is is that she has had surgery on it,at the age of 14 as this chapter reveals. However it is because as a child she was hit in the face with a hockey stick which shattered her nose and was told she had to leave it to heal naturally! Hence it being slightly bigger than usual. The bullying then gets worse, not better after the surgery.
Feeling Blue: This chapter lets us in on her relationship with a very famous member of the boyband 'Blue',I wont tell you who,but she tells us all about his insecurities and heavy drinking that eventually break the relationship up. An interesting chapter.
The decision: This is a moving chapter,as Jodie finds out she is pregnant by 'Fran Cosgrave',famous for 'Im a celebrity' and already being the father of 'Natasha Hamiltons' baby from the band 'Atomic Kitten'. She is left with no choice in her opinion, but to have an abortion as Fran calls her a 'lying slag' when she tells him the news.
R.I.P: This is again a moving chapter,as Jodies best friend is murdered due to domestic violence. She finds it hard to cope with the death and vows to use her fame to help charities. At the same time, her career as a glamour model is starting to take off and she starts to get recognition as a minor celebrity.
Kenzie,my little chimp: This chapter is all about her relationship with Kenzie from the band 'Blazing Squad'. She tells us about the ups and downs of the relationship and how his Mum became a big part in splitting them up,due to her over protectiveness of her son. Again a chapter about a relationship, which there are planty of in this book!
Boxing Beauty: This chapter documents her time as the girlfriend of boxer 'Gary Delaney'. She admits thats he never really loved him,but felt protected against bullies and jealous people when she was with him,due to his 'Hard Man' image.
Peters Angels: This tells us all about her stint as a lap dancer in Stringfellows Club. She tells us all about the clients she gets and how much money she would make. She also states the guilt she feels at having to dance for men, knowing that they have a wife or kids at home waiting for them. She also tells us that at this time, she had her first sexual feelings towards women.
This is only a small selection of chapters from a hugely, interesting and surprising book. I dont want to go into details on each chapter as I genuinly think thats its a book worth picking up if you want some gossip and easy reading.
Has it changed my opinion on her? Well yes it has. I've learned that she is a very clever lady, with many qualifications to her name ,who can use her brain for a good cause. Shes also greatly involved with charity, which some celebs shy away from and shes also been through a lot in her life that many will never experience. If im honest, before I picked up the book,I did think that she was a bimbo who could only earn money from getting her body out, however this book does challenge you to change your opinion. However, even though shes been truthful,it doesnt help her stereotype very much by admitting the amount of men she has slept with!
However I would recomend this book,if you want to read something thats not too taxing on your brain and promises to reveal alot of juicy gossip and insights into celeb life.

Good review. I have a very dim opinion of Jodie Marsh - perhaps this book would enlighten me - providing it doesnt read as a whose who on the bed posts of course. I find her a very complex character who seems extremely naive despite her years and confessed experiences of life. If i see this in a charity shop I may purchase it based on your review. C
