"Good food in the centre of York"

We were recently in York and looking for somewhere to eat, when I remembered having had a good meal he the previous year for a birthday party.

Being not an especially big city, i find york nice and easy to negotiate. This is on one of the little side streets, on Stonegate, which is very centraL

There are two entrances to the restaurant. Once inside, the restaurant itself is on two levels with an outside area on the upper level. It is all nice and light airy and breezy with wooden tables and chairs spread over the areas. The toilets are upstairs and I didn't notice a lift so I not think disabled access would be good although there may be a lift. The whole place has a very open rustic feel with a modern twist.

Breakfast is served from 8.30am to 12noon daily, and there is a breakfast club menu for adults and children serving the usual breakfast fare. As well as this, Sunday roasts are served every Sunday from midday.
We close from the main menu which is Served from 12 noon to 9:00pm daily. This features sandwiches and wraps, starters and sharers with salads, burgers and large meals, all reasonably priced.

We were there on a Monday and there was the added advantage of many of the dishes being half price which was a bonus.

I chose the chicken burger normally costing £9.95 but on this day coming in at half that price. It was served in a large brioche bun, very fresh. Inside the bun were two nicely cooked chargrilled chicken fillets, mozzarella and fresh basil. One of our group chose the classic burger which consisted of two burgers with lettuce, tomato and red onion. Both burgers came complete with delicious home made chips and a serving of freshly made coleslaw. In both burgers, everything was really fresh and well cooked. One on our table also ordered the soup of the day which came complete with a rustic type bread.

As well as being tasty, the portions were good sized but not too big and definitely not a meal where you feel you've eaten a plate full of pre frozen food.

The whole bill for three of use came to a little over £15 including soft drinks, so excellent value. Staff are helpful and friendly and once we had chosen a table, we were quickly offered drinks and then given time to chose the food.

The place had a good atmosphere in the afternoon, and many of the diners were complimenting the staff on the quality of the food. It was good food and no complaints from us.

The whole place is clean including the toilets although they are upstairs.

If I had a grumble it was that it was a little bit cold but other than that, no grumbles.

Centrally located, I would recommend to anyone travelling to york.

Thanks for reading
