TYLER COURT

Advantages: Probably the nicest place to stay on campus
Disadvantages: It's a tad expensive!

...I applied to go to Kent University it was at the last minute (about 2 weeks before my results!) and so did not get to apply for accommodation in the normal way. I was assigned my accommodation by the University and was given the option to live in Tyler Court or to find my own place to stay!

So I decided to take up my place in Tyler Court Block C, which is (if I do say so myself) probably the best place to live on campus.

...from the people who actually applied properly, to apply for accommodation you either fill in a form which they send you in the post (I'd recommend doing this ASAP especially if you hope to get in here!) or you can fill in an on-line application form which will be detailed in the letter accompanying your postal application. All the details of the rooms and rates can be found at www.kent.ac.uk in the hospitality section. There are pictures of most ... more

Uni Great, College Let down

Advantages: Nursery facilities
Disadvantages: Disorganisation, poor structure, poor communication, unhelpful

...a result I phoned South Kent College and explained the situation. They sent out an application form and invited my husband for an interview. He started college the following monday! The only good thing about the college is the nursery that is on campus. I have a two year old son and he loves it there. They are very organised and brilliant with the children. They are helpful when you have any problems and extremely understanding with financial issues. ...

Had the best time ever!

Advantages: Nice and quiet place for study, spacious campus with lots of facilities including a large library in the centre of campus
Disadvantages: Far from other cities and towns which could be annoying for those who enjoy going as nightlife in canterbury is not that great!

I have just graduated from an Economics degree at the university and have ordered my robes and photographs for the graduation ceremony due to take place in the well known canterbury cathedral in July. Definately I would say that the past three years of university has been the best time of my life so far...and what a special place to have to celebrate the end of my uni life and have my graduation ceremony take place at the canterbury cathedral. It ...
...family and also a day to celebrate the end of our degrees with my friends and other students in my course. Although I can see myself visiting the town and the university again in the future, I will definately miss being a student there. Eventhough this university wasnt my first choice, I think that I was lucky to have chosen this university through clearing because of the friends Ive made and the experience Ive gained from studying there. At the ...

Excellent Computer Facilities

Advantages: Verdict: Good studying environment and excellent computer facilities
Disadvantages: high school fees

I've studied at University of Kent for a year in 1998. Strong points: (1) Serene university enviroment with campus on a hill-ducklings could be seen wondering around and chasing one another on campus during spring time (2) Good computer facilities with most computers being Pentium configuration (3) A wide variety of computer books in the library (4) Good nightlife - student union film card costs £10 for a year which entitles you to watch movies ...
...sat evenings - disco on campus (5) Adsa transport to and fro campus during school term, great for examination periods when time is scarce. (6) Very near to Dover port, great breakaway to France and Belgium. Weak points: (1) High school fees for overseas students abt £9000 per year (same for all UK uni.) (2) As campus situated on a hill, be warned if you go on foot to town centre, you have to climb up the hill with your shopping back to campus ...

Uni Accomodation

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

Kent offers you several choices of accomodation: halls, self-catering, and rented houses in town. My advice to freshers is - go for halls in your first year then, if you can get in, self-catering in your last. The self-catering parts are spread into several houses - Brotherwood Close, etc and then a whole village called Parkwood. If you go into these in your first year and you don't get on with your housemates etc you've got to try and make friends ...
...are in a house full of foreign students, nice for a year but when you're looking for housemates for your second year not so good as they are guaranteed a place in Parkwood and you aren't. Also, in halls you can at least know that you've got one meal guaranteed so if you do run out of cash at the end of term you can still get a cooked breakfast (that's if you get up in time). You will be on central campus so not far to walk to lectures and the library ...

Best Uni in the country

Advantages: Friendly, great social,
Disadvantages: Expensive to live in town

Having been to UKC for three years, I can look back and safely say that I have had a fantastic university career. Friendly from the start, UKC opens it's arms to new students unlike some other universities around the country. There's a huge variety of clubs and societies and with the halls being self contained, you really get socially involved and the university becomes your life. As well as the fun fun fun side of things, UKC also has an exemplary ...
...government league tables (biology and psychology getting 24 out of 24 each), there are worse places to study. Being so close to the continent has it advantages, attracting a huge number of students from across Europe. There is a truly multicultural feel to the place, with Europeans, Asians, Africans and Americans all living and sharing the amazinglly picturesque site Set deep in the heart of Kent, Canterbury resonates 'holiday', with hundreds of ...

Life as a Care Manager.

Advantages: Very rewarding work
Disadvantages: Frustrating, bureaucratic, at times, heart wrenching

. My initial reason was to be able to work as a Social Worker for Deaf or deafened children and young adults, although this is not where I was offered a job at the end of the course. I had to go through a clearing house to be accepted on the course, as with all University courses. Instead of UCAS it is SWAS. I was offered two places, one in Canterbury and one in Chatham (both Kent). I chose Chatham as it was closest to home and my youngest child was only 10 years old so I needed to get home quickly if necessary. The course was for a Diploma in Social Work lasting two years. This has now changed to being a Degree course lasting three years. This is not the only way into Care Management though. You can apply if you are a qualified nurse or if you have NVQ level 4 in social care. I continued to work around the course, which ...
