Kenwood Electric Can Opener

In our old flat we were really limited to work top space but we would always make sure that we had room for this one item which was used very regularly back them. Once we moved to a bigger flat with better space it was typical that the Kenwood Can Opener finally gave up and died on us. The fact was that since then we have tried so many different types of can openers but haven’t actually found one as hardwearing and reliable as this one was.

We didn’t purchase the can opener for ourselves but it was a gift from my mother in law for when we moved into our old flat back in 2000. At that time you could have probably picked it up for around £25 and I think now you can find it for under £10 if you look online which is a really good price when I think of all the cheap can openers that I have bought since the Kenwood electric one died and how much money I have wasted as they have all since broken on me too.

Although made of white plastic and not at all fitting with my current kitchen I wouldn’t mind having this can opener back and am contemplating buying it now in silver. The fact is that I am not too sure how much it would get used nowadays seeing as there is the ring pull opening on a lot of cans where as there wasn’t when we were first given this product and we did use it a lot.

The idea of the product is simple and it is a main powered item which has a cable a good enough length to plug it in and position it along the worktop under the plug with ease. Once the power is on at the wall there are no extra buttons or anything that need pressing or changing in order for the can opener to work, you simply need to lift the front arm of the product, offer the can in and push the arm back down to hold the can in place and begin the opening process.

The noise of the can opener is obvious but not at all intrusive and I feel my kettle will make a much louder noise than this would. The product does work well too and after opening will hold the can on the opener until you are ready to remove it by lifting the arm and holding the can. Once the can is pulled away the lid will stay onto the opener by way of a magnet on the underside of the arm. This is not the easiest aspect of the machine to clean and will need a brush taking to it every so often (making sure the power is off at the mains). Other than that the machine is easy to wipe over with a cloth if needed after every use. The glossy plastic that it is made from is not only strong but also easy to clean.

It is worth noting that the later models than the one I have seen to have a lot more to offer and surely make it more worth while having the product on out the worktop like it has to be. There is the option to open beer bottles and to sharpen knives which really make it seem more worthwhile to own and when buying my next model I shall be sure to look out for this aspect.

All in all I can’t really find fault with this can opener it lasted us a long 8 years and did well as we did use it most days without problem. It is strong and durable and well worth buying another to replace it.

I can find no fault with the product we had and for that reason I feel a top score of 5 out of 5 stars and a very high recommendation is well deserved.

Many thanks for taking the time to read.

I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you.
