=========================
This ice cream maker has a bowl which has to be frozen for 24 hours before use….but hey…no problem, I store my bowl in the freezer.
Before I started to keep the bowl permanently in the freezer I did check with Kenwood's ... ...ice cream mix, assemble the Kenwood ice cream maker, switch it on so that the paddle is turning, pour in the ice cream mixture and wait…..the instructions say that it can take anything from 15 - 30 minutes, I've found that to be able to use the ice cream straight away, it does take 30 minutes. Plenty of time to put the feet up and have a cup of coffee or tea.
For more years than I wish to reveal I've made ice cream for the family using the old fashioned method of beating furiously with a wooden spoon, freezing the mixture, more beating, etc etc.
I always thought that I had no need for an electric ice cream maker. However in early September this year I had a complete change of heart and a completely different method of making my ice cream.....I'm now a churner!!!! ===================

Before I started to keep the bowl permanently in the freezer I did check with Kenwood's customer care team that this would be ok and I was given the 'all clear' on this.
I paid £17.49 for my ice cream maker, it came with full instructions for use and a Jennie Shapter desserts recipe book - the printed price of this recipe book is £4.99. ===================
The ice cream maker is extremely simple to use - obviously the mixing bowl has to be frozen for at least 24 hours and its best if all other utensils are chilled.
Prepare your desired ice cream mix, assemble the Kenwood ice cream maker, switch it on so that the paddle is turning, pour in the ice cream mixture and wait…..the instructions say that it can take anything from 15 - 30 minutes, I've found that to be able to use the ice cream straight away, it does take 30 minutes. I've not found any ice particles in the ice cream made with this machine and in fact most of the ice creams - unless they contain chunks of fruit - are soft scoop and can be served straight from the freezer.
It can make 1litre of ice cream at a time, not a huge amount, but I've just continued to do what I always did…….make it and freeze it in airtight containers, several different varieties, over a few days. ===================
I would recommend the Kenwood IM250 Ice Cream maker as a value for money item at the price I paid, however after an internet search I've discovered that my purchase must've been made while it was a promotional item and that the 'going price' for this model appears to be about £25 at the moment.
It's still a great machine and personally, after using it I wouldn't be without it now. If you like ice cream and hate sore arms I'd recommend this to you. ===================
I've used a few of the recipes from the comprehensive instruction leaflet that accompanied the ice cream maker and a couple from Jennie Shapter's recipe book and they are good.
However……the one that has gone down best of all in our house is one I got from the Ciao community recipes, it's for Ben and Jerry's vanilla - great on its own or there are suggestions for additions and they're great too.

Just popping off to scoop some ice cream into bowls for an indulgence snack….I'll photograph them for you, before we eat the lot!!!
Advantages: Delicious icecream with no additives Disadvantages: Only makes small quantity.
I was browsing in Tesco for something to spend my birthday money on and was idly looking at this icecream maker, when another customer, a young woman, came up to me and started raving about it. She said she had one and she'd bought her brother one as well and even he could use it, it was so easy. Well it didn't take much to talk me into it, especially as it was on offer at £14.99, normal price £19.99.
I opened the box and read the first recipe while ... ...up on the ingredients ready to get started straight away. However, on getting home and reading the instructions I was a bit disappointed to find that you have to freeze the mixing bowl for 24 hours before you can make any icecream! I probably should have expected that, but I'd thought that the machine itself did the freezing and you did not need to use the actual freezer. I guess you live and learn. Unfortunately I have rather a small freezer and ...

i know the instructions say to leave the bowl to thaw out completely before washing it, but if you rinse the freezer bowl out with warm water and dry it very very well, then you can use it again much sooner. 6 hours should do it really, although I once used it within an hour. the mixture stiffened slightly, but not completely, and I had to finish freezing it in the freezer with the occasional stir. no problems there, but I would recomment giving it at least 6-12 hours if you refreeze immediately.
NB. you have to dry it very very well inside and out or you'll have a nice crust of ice all over that will inhibit the paddle. ...
