I bought this amplifier to power my 4 main speakers in conjunction with another Kenwood amplifier to power the subwoofer. The KAC-648 is a budget amp at around £140 and is easy to install like many other amplifiers. It is a 4 channel amplifier and the rated power output at 4 Ohms is 25 Watts using all 4 channels and at 2 Ohms 35 Watts using 4 channels. The amplifier features gold plated line input/output and speaker input/output. Using the High pass Filter (features low pass filter, full range options and input sensitivity individually for both input channels) on the amp you can achieve incredible sound quality in conjunction with another amp to power the subwoofer. This is because the amp drives well and allows the component speakers to just power the higher audible frequencies with less distortion at a higher decibel level.
The only problem I have had with the amp is the fact it has a protection function that protects the amp from speaker cable being short-circuited, speaker outputs contacting ground, temperature of the amp is too high, or head unit is not contacting ground. This is a great feature however when it cuts in it is very hard for an end user to tell which one is causing the problem, as there is no diagnostics system. It is very hard to reset the Amp as the instruction manual is poor on this subject and does not cover how to reset it. From speaking to Kenwood the way to reset the amp is to disconnect all the connected cables to it and leave it so it automatically resets. I have found this very tricky and it doesn’t always work first time, a reset button would be most useful for this scenario. Apart from that it is a very good amp and at a low price that will make a basic car stereo system sound out of this world.
