The Kenwood SJ526, hardly the sexiest name I've heard for a domestic appliance has taken pride of place on my kitchen worktop for over 6 months and was presented by my mother in-law as a house warming gift. For £22.99 she had chosen in my opinion the most beautiful and stylish kettle around.

How exciting must my life be that I have taken time out of the weekend to sit and give my valued opinion on a kettle? Yes, I kid you not trusty readers, a kettle, that well known device for taking normal boring everyday water and making it into boiling hot boring everyday water.

The Kenwood SJ526, hardly the sexiest name I've heard for a domestic appliance has taken pride of place on my kitchen worktop for over 6 months and was presented by my mother in-law as a house warming gift. For £22.99 she had chosen in my opinion the most beautiful and stylish kettle around.

To describe the entire unit as cordless is a little misleading, as there is a need for a power supply and this is directed from the mains into the rounded base unit which is a small, compact yet deceptively weighty. The kettle slots onto this unit and once in position is quite secure. A slight knock and there is no danger of it toppling over and the contents spilling.

The main body of the kettle, the lid and the spout are made from stainless steel while the handle and the viewing windows are the only parts of the kettle made from a hard wearing plastic. The handle is finished in silver whilst the viewing windows are clearly transparent to allow you to see the water boiling. It never ceases to amaze me how hypnotic and relaxing it is watching water in this kettle boil! The viewing window also acts as a way of checking how much water is in the kettle as there are no other gauges that show the current levels or the number of cups of water left.

Internally, the kettle is very unique and rather than having the usual element just sat there waiting to be covered in limescale it is hidden away. As you look down into the kettle all you can see is a metal base similar in appearance to a hot plate and this is the section of the kettle that heats the water, and heats it up very quickly. When filled up to its 1.7 litre capacity the kettle does take a little while to boil completely. On average this take 5-6 minutes, however when only half full it takes less than 2 minutes and this is more than enough for myself and my husband when we fancy a quick drink before heading to work in the morning. Once it has reached boiling point, the kettle automatically switches itself off so it will not continue to boil.

If you are in the market and looking for a new kettle that would look good in a modern kitchen, or to match existing silver or chrome appliances I would strongly recommend the very sexy Kenwood SJ526 to you. It boils water very quickly, looks unique, has a large water capacity, is safe and won't cost you the Earth.
