The Kenwood water filter

Advantages: Cheaper then others
Disadvantages: none

Due to the hardness of my tap water I decided to buy a water filter, although fairly sceptical about them. After looking at all of them I chose the Kenwood water filter at £8.99 from Argos. I have now had it for nearly two years and wouldn't be without it! I mainly use the water for my tea, the main improvements here are the taste of the tea, and the fact that you don't get those small hard lumps of scale in the bottom of your cup, and the fact that I never need to descale the kettle. I know when it is running out as the kettle element starts to get the white fur as the scale starts but after changing the filter this disappears! I also use it for drinking water and even making ice cubes - the taste is different from tap water and you know it is fairly pure. Finally I use it to fill up my fish taank after cleaning! RIP - Bottled Water (in the benniash household)

Advantages: Effective, cheap, easy to use/clean
Disadvantages: No indicator, low capacity.

Having written an opinion on tap water a few months ago it became apparent from the comments I received that many people still purchase vast amounts of bottled water, with some brands charging extortionate prices. As mentioned in that opinion I have always preferred tap water although I always filter it first, to make it as pure as possible. Kenwood make a range of water filters in different sizes and colours, but on the whole they all do the same thing as they use the same cartridges. For your benefit, the model I have, and therefore on which this opinion is based, is the WF93. The water filter is transparent with a white lid, spout and filter dish. The filter dish and the jug both have a maximum capacity of 1.1 litres, which means that you can?t over fill the jug. This capacity isn?t very big but sufficient for my partner ...

filtered water - an unrealistic dream?

Advantages: easy to use
Disadvantages: hasn't improved the taste of our tea

We live in a hard water area in Bristol and are always having problems with limescale - we've been through many kettles in the last few years. My husband and I are used to the taste of the water now, so we don't really notice it, but when we have visitors they often complain about the drinks we serve. So, we were thrilled when my parents bought us a Brita Elemaris Cool Water Filter jug for Christmas along with a refill pack of 3 MAXTRA cartridges. Apparently they were fed up of the strange taste of our tea! Brita make the following claims - "You will enjoy cleaner, clearer, great tasting water" and "protects your domestic appliances against limescale build up". "The BRITA MAXTRA cartridge reduces substances like chlorine, limescale..., aluminium, heavy metals... and certain pesticides as well as organic impurities." Excellent ...
