Drink 8 pints of water they tell you. I didn't want to drink 8 teaspoons of my tap water!

Our water contains so much chlorine that it turns our shower cubicle pink. Needless to say I didn't want to drink the stuff. If we made a cup of tea our water used to "bleach" the tea bags and made it taste disgusting.

We were concerned that this surely could not be good for you so called in the waterboard (south west water) to run some tests.

Aparently they aim for a chlorine reading of 0.05 but here they got a result of 0.6. that seemed a bit excessive to me , but the little man told us that the water board can stick as much bleach into our water as they saw fit!!

Getting no-where with them, we decided to perform our own remedy.
First off we put an in - line water filter which cost us £100 and a further £20 pound each for the filters, which are supposed to be changed every 6 months. ours lasted 6 weeks before we had to change it.

It got most of the chlorine out and it made ok tea now, but you could still taste it straight from the tap.

Now we are not big water drinkers, but I do like a nice cold glass once in a while , and hubby has to take pills and they go down better with water. So I thought of getting a little water jug jobby.

I looked around on the net, first of all at the Britta ones but decided they were too expensive for the amount we wanted one for. Then while shopping in Asda I saw this little 1.1L jug that fits in the door of the fridge for about a fiver!! all the filters to fit it were there to (i think i got three for just a few pounds) Argos do this jug for £9.99 and a pack of 6 replacement filters for £12.99.

When I got it home, I unpacked it and for once looked at the instructions before using it.

You have to wash and rinse the whole thing thouroughly before putting the filter bit anywhere near it. You also have to soak the filter for ten minutes before its fitted then fill the jug, let the water get filtered then discard it (twice) before it can be used.

Its an easy job, as all the bits fit together easily. (although the little flappy bit at the front gets stuck sometimes) and for all your efforts you finaly get to drink a nice, clear, cool, refreshing drink of the stuff of life!

Ta for reading ;)
