Advantages A good, compact blender

Disadvantages Quite expensive at full price

I have always wanted a food blender since buying our first house. I’m not really sure why I was so keen to get one but it was just a kitchen gadget that I had always fancied and thought you could do quite a lot with. I decided after Christmas that I would try and get one in the sales and I ended up with a Kenwood one.

The reason I chose the one I did is purely for cosmetic reasons as I thought it looked cool. The only practical reason I had for choosing this one is that it was quite compact as I didn’t want one that was big and bulky and would take up half a work surface. I like my work surfaces to be clear and therefore I wanted a blender that could be stored away nice and easily in a cupboard without taking up too much storage space and this one fitted the bill.

The one I chose was the BX54 from the Kenwood kMix range. They do this blender in a range of quite contemporary colours which include black, white, red and cream so there is one to suit all styles of kitchens. This looks quite a simple blender but is quite expensive at full price which tends to range from £75.00 - £110.00 depending on where you purchase it from, though luckily I got it a little cheaper than this. First appearances said to me that this blender wouldn’t be worth this kind of cost as it looked quite basic and simple and I couldn’t see how such a large price tag could be justified, even though Kenwood is quite a well known, good quality brand.

My initial thoughts changed though once I started to use the blender. I loved the fact that it was quiet – a lot quieter than I expected it to be which impressed me and it was pretty powerful too. It was far more powerful than it looked with its 800w motor really giving out some power. This blender has 4 speed settings and a pulse control so you can have good control over your blending. There is also added extras such as cord storage and a safety lock on it which means that when the just is away from the base, the motor is unable to be switched on so there is very little chance of any nasty accidents happening with this blender.

This blender is perfect for blending fruit, vegetables, soup and dips and is also great for crushing ice. I had never used a blender before so wasn’t sure if you had to chop things up or leave them whole, so I went half way and slightly chopped them so they weren’t completely whole but I needn’t have worried as the blender glided through the fruit with ease. I like the fact that everything in the blender was blended to a nice, even consistency with no bits being left on the sides or at the bottom.

The blender has a 1.6ltr blending capacity and is suitable for both left and right handed people to use. Dimensions of the blender are as follows:-
Height:- 39.4cm, depth, 21.6cm and width 19.5cm.
Overall, I really liked this blender and am glad I brought it as it gives great results with very little effort. The blender is really powerful and nice and quiet, which were the main things I wanted from it. It comes in a great range of colours which will make it look a great accessory in any kitchen and it is nice and easy to clean too.

Looks a neat little blender. I think you are right £75 should be the top price. Great review.

Ours is a fairly expensive Philips one and has leaked almost from new! We'll try Kenwood next time. R. xxx
