Advantages Durable, easy to use, fits in with the kitchen

Disadvantages Expensive, heavy

I don't know if you've ever had that experience with a blender when after a few months of general use, the blades at the bottom cease to turn, and you discover that this fault is down to another plastic part which in turn turns the blades. Parts of the said plastic piece have snapped off, and so therefore the blender is rendered useless. Well, having had this experience I went down to John Lewis in search of a better design. Little did I know, every blender has this type of system, and so each blender I looked at was at risk of becoming useless after a couple of months.

At the end of a long search, I decided to go for this Kenwood Blender, because its plastic part was the most sturdy looking out of the range, and so I thought it would last the longest. After a year of use, it is still going strong so I think I can safely say that it performs well.

Why else did I buy it? Well I also thought that out of all the blenders I was considering the Kenwood blender was the most aesthetically pleasing. I bought it in black, but i think particularly in the beige it has a kind of retro look which I found quite appealing. However, it also fits well in a modern kitchen.

Also, operating it was very simple. Some of the competition looked like they had more buttons and knobs than a space ship but the Kenwood blender only has one single knob, which you can turn to the setting you want, depending on what you are blending. This is very helpful, and reduces the time it takes to get used to using it.

Finally, whilst I didn't realise it at the time of buying, the blender is very easy to take apart and wash, which, if anyone has a blender which isn't, is a huge advantage. It means you don't get little bits of food building up in hard to reach places, and can wash your blender very thoroughly inbetween uses.

It is a little pricey, but there are some good new offers on eBay, and Amazon, or John Lewis has them, although they are only available in Beige and Black. However, if you're going to fork out for a new blender, it may as well be for this one, as at present, it seems to be the best one on the market.

One word of warning - the blades really are incredibly sharp. This is great when it's in use, but when I was washing it, the blade slit through my rubber glove and cut my thumb quite deeply, and that was just from brushing against it. So watch out for that.
