Another HP device...
Advantages: Sturdy, nice "quick buttons"*, feels like every key works really well Disadvantages: no number pad :-S
...the HP7540 Screen and the HP Compaq Business Desktop dc5100 Desktop. A similar gray/silver and black colour scheme to the other hp stuff I've reviewed and tbh a similar feel to it, of being an office device rather than a keyboard made for gaming and like all HP products it's very effective.
The keyboard despite looking ordinary enough, isn't, the number pad on this one I'm using is seperate (well attached by a cable as opposed to a one peice keyboard), ... ...seem somewhat under-used.
The hp sense of making things reliable is again evident as the keys are sturdy and look like they will take quite a hard hammering to damage them. They do make a slight noise but then again all keyboards do when you type, don't they?
On the responsiveness front, I'm unsure if an unresponsive keyboard is more to do with the actual computer, but this all works very well together so I'm going to go with the idea it's a 50-50 ...

Better than a Bontempi organ - the HP Keyboard
Advantages: Aesthetically pleasing, nice key response, simple and effective Disadvantages: PS2 connection, wired, shiny keys
~~~ Overview ~~~
The HP 2004 Standard Keyboard is the basic, bog-standard input device currently shipping with HP Compaq entry-level desktop PCs such as the dx2400. Being that the PC supplied is a no-frills machine, it is little surprise that a no-frills peripheral is included. Remember that this is a PC-only peripheral.
~~~ Appearance ~~~
The keyboard is a fairly innocuous affair with black keys, black housing and a silver highlight ... ...a black HP logo in it's centre. The keys are relatively shiny with each letter picked out in white paint. Being a full-size keyboard, the majority of the unit is occupied by the letter keys with a separate numeric keypad set to the right. There are also the usual Function keys (F1 - F12) at the top, and the navigation keys (arrows, Insert, Delete, Home End etc).
At the back of the keyboard, right in the centre, the PS/2 lead joins the main body. ...

Sleek and silver
Advantages: Cheap and efficient Disadvantages: none as of yet
...better than my current keyboard. Labtec have quite a good name in this sphere although they have been prone to some bad press. I don’t think this is totally justified since most of their products are considerably cheaper than competitors, and in general terms you get what you pay for. I can’t see the point in paying twenty odd quid for a similar system, when this works just fine.
The Mouse
Both units are wireless and are connected to the ... ...a charger for the mouse. Placing the mouse in the charger/wireless adaptor ensures that it is always ready for use. It is a standard type mouse insomuch as that it has two buttons and a scroll wheel. I quite like the silver colour and the black contrast of the area around the wheel. I have found the mouse works very well and although it doesn't really need charging very often putting it into the charger when not in use certainly keeps it up to scratch.

Logitech Ultra X Premium
Advantages: It's easy to set up, easy to use, comfortable Disadvantages: It's not wireless
...motherboard was one getting the Logitech DiNovo in (but let's be honest, £100 for a keyboard is a bit much) Anyway, turning to the online places there were the big names like Steelseries and Razer, which are pointless because I don't game very often (if at all). because I work on the computer mainly typing and photoshopping I just wanted something comfortable and low travel. Then I came across this in a clearance area. At £20 it wasn't what I'd call ... ...keyboards so I went and bought it. plugged it in andit worked straight away, no need for drivers, the setup being incredibly simple. Using it is a pleasure more than anything else, it's like a laptop keyboard in the way that the keys are low travel, but it's full size like a normal computer keyboard, a perfect compromise The layout is fairly standard, with QWERTY layout and some hotkeys at the top (which to be honest I never use, but I'm sure they're ...

looks good but doesn't work well
Advantages: looks nice, small form factor, Disadvantages: track pad is too small and doesn't work consistently
...huge and it was a Toshiba which I have good previous experience of. Got it home and opened the box - initial impressions were very good it looks smart and tidy. put in the USB transmitter - it took a little while and several reinsertions but eventually seemed to register. started using it and the keyboard worked well. The track pad wouldn't work consistently at all. Some times it wouldn't register my finger at all other times it would go in a direction ...
