December, the lead up to Xmas and all it's related fun. With just a couple of weeks to go until Christmas day, it'll soon be time to plan holidays for next summer.
When Mrs P and myself emabark on our travels, we are organized to the point of obsessiveness. We usually travel around different places, continually on the move, so travelling light is a priority for us. For example, we know how much toothpaste we'll need for a fortnight, so when a tube gets to that level, it's kept to the side for the forthcoming trip. That way we don't take a full tube with us and have nothing to bring home. Similarly, shaving foam can be a problem. Those big containers take up a lot of room and it can be difficult to get hold of the little travel ones sometimes. Also, you can never tell when there is just enough left for x amount of shaves.
Imagine my delight, therefore, when I chanced upon a teensy-weensy, itsy-bitsy, little bottle of shaving oil. Namely: KING OF SHAVES SHAVING OIL. It's so small that it could fit comfortably inside a small matchbox. "YES, YA DANCER!" I quietly thought to myself, that'll do nicely. So I bought some.
* THEY SAY *
"With over 4,000,000 sold, this is the world's best selling shaving oil. No mess, no pain, no burn, ideal for sensitive skin and the compact size makes it ideal for travelling (you'll get up to 100 shaves from each bottle). Leaves skin smooth and moisturised. Enjoy shaving? You will with our Shaving Oil!
Phew! That's a strange list of contents. Looking through them I wouldn't be surprised if this stuff would clear a blocked nose.....although I won't be having a hefty snort up each nostril to test the theory.
I'll take a short break now and remove some stubble. Here's a story to keep you occupied.
A man enters a barbershop for a shave. While the barber is foaming him up, he mentions the problems he has getting a close shave around his cheeks.
"I have just the thing," says the barber taking a small wooden ball from a nearby drawer. "Just place this between your cheek and gum."
The client places the ball in his mouth and the barber proceeds with the closest shave the man has ever experienced. After a few strokes, the client asks in garbled speech, "But what if I swallow it?"
"No problem," says the barber. "Just bring it back tomorrow like everyone else does."
It's a beautiful, deep blue colour with a clean, fresh and invigorating aroma. It's a bit disconcerting bringing the razor into contact with your face when, on looking in the mirror, there's no Santa Claus clone staring back. It puts me in mind of the times when I've had a dry shave, but it doesn't feel like that as the razor glides across my skin quite easily. It does the job, in that it helps the hair to stand up in order to be chopped off, and that's all you can ask of it. It's a decent shaving experience and the size makes it great for travel, but my first choice would still be to use shaving foam.
I don't like the way it clogs up the razor and I'm not all that enamoured with the oily, greasy texture but, it certainly doesn't make as much mess as foam.
* I SAY *
NO MESS? - It's not VERY messy, but I wouldn't want to spill any of it, it is oil after all. But, like any oily substance it leaves a film around the sink, although a quick splash with some hot water should clear that.
NO PAIN? - Nope. Doesn't hurt at all.
NO BURN? - Try as I might, I can't get it to light so I'll have to agree with that one. (I don't really get razor burn anyway as I'm pretty insensitive)
COMPACT? IDEAL FOR TRAVELLING? - I have to concede that one as well, it's very small.
100 SHAVES? - I'll get back to you with an update.
LEAVES SKIN blah, blah? - My skin feels smooth enough, but it also feels greasy and I don't like that much.
ENJOY SHAVING? - No
Would I use it again? - YES. By my reckoning I've still got 62 shaving experiences left in the bottle.
Would I buy it again? - At around £3.50, it's not particularly cheap but as long as I'm going to travel, and shave - Yes.

Advantages: No cuts or burn Disadvantages: Semms a we bit dear
...when I saw that the King of Shaves were promising me free shaving oil and a better shave I jumped at the chance. Especially as I am one of the few with sensitive skin (because I am a sensitive guy obviously). So I entered my details and the King sent me my oil. It arrived about a week later, just long enough for me to forget I had ordered it.
Much to my surprise I had received a tiny (trust me it was tiny) tube of oil. This was allegedly enough ... ...been out and bought some King of Shaves Oil for myself. It does not appear cheap but considering that you literally use a couple of drops a shave it is probably the cheaper per shave than anything else on the market.
Now I just need to find something that will motivate me into getting a hair cut before my girlfriend does it for me. ...

Advantages: So easy to apply, gives a really close shave, no razor burn Disadvantages: Might make problem skin...well more problematic
...value for money. The price ranges from £3.50-£4.99, which may seem quite steep, but will last upto 100 shaves from one bottle! However, reductions can be found on the company's website, which has an e-shop.

...back at you, but with King of Shaves oil you just see yourself, but once you’ve started and you see how nice and smoothly the razor glides across your skin you’re at ease.
Anyway I’m so impressed (“I bought the company” As Victor Kiam would say) that I have actually bought a bottle of the stuff, and have left the gel for the wife, the shave oil comes in a little 15 ml bottle and cost me £3.19 from Superdrug, that’s for the original formula. There ... ...I win the lottery. I mean why bother with a face like mine. (As my old Dad used to say, ‘Nick, you can’t polish a turd!’)
King of Shaves oil – it is a great shave and makes a nice change from gel, well worth a try.

Smooooooth Review ofKing of Shaves Kinexium Advanced Shaving Oilby

Advantages: Very good shave Disadvantages: very small bottle, i don't believe it will do 100 shaves.
...inside. The leaflet has King of Shaves and a big K at the top and says shaving oil on it. The bottle is on display at the bottom and that too has the King of Shaves logo on it. Embossed on the plastic at the bottom is ‘The worlds best shave’. Everything is one shade of blue or another.
We are assured on the back of the packet that it is suitable for irritable skin and that you get up to 100 shaves from one bottle.
The bottle is small ... ...that when your hands are wet you can still open it. On the back it has the volume. 15ml. Told you it was small.
When you open it and smell it really is very nice. The contents list is there in your nose. Camphor, Menthol, Eucalyptus and spearmint. So this would probably be good if you had a cold as well.
So, what’s it like to shave with then?
Firstly, I used this product in conjunction with Morrisons Triple Blade Razor (see opinion).

...mean something. The King of Shaves Formula Alpha Shaving Oil (yes, that’s it’s real name, but I shouldn’t ask for that in the chemist, you’ll confuse the nice women behind the counter) gives you Ultimate Protection from Razor Burn, Enhanced with Aloe, Vitamin E and Tea Tree Oil. It is Ideal for sensitive skin (I can vouch for that too) and alleviates Razor Burn, protects and moisturises. That’s what it say’s on the box anyway.
My personal experience ... ...sample came a pouch of King of Shaves AlphaGel and also K24 men’s active moisturiser, each of which will have it’s own opinion coming soon. I’m actually doing quite well out of these samples. I’m getting decent shaves, lots of free samples of rather expensive shaving thingy’s and also I’m making money out of the opinions I’m writing on it…..ahh life couldn’t get better.
So the low-down….This product is rather nice, I haven’t used any other oils ...

Advantages: Smells nice funky name space aged etc etc Disadvantages: bloody expensive and the menthol...she burns she burns
....wilkinson-sword.co.uk. I once heard Nikki Clerk or someone say that it is best to use a razor only once as they are too blunt the next time around. I follow this advice and rarely use a razor more than twice. So with my proffered razor a shave with out shave foam or gel is about 40p a pop.
The Shave Foam, Gels and oils
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have used a lot of different shave foam and gels, from traditional shaving soap and a badger hair brush right through to what might seem the most space aged of shave lubricants, King of Shaves (KoS) Kinexium Mentholated Advancedshave gel. I've even tried Somerset's shaveoil. For those how aren't familiar with this, Somerset Oil comes in a weenie little bottle with strict instructions to use no more than two drops in warm water and apply to the face, (being of that prodominatly male school of thought that says...
...Smooth. In a word. I have been hooked to using King of ShavesAdvancedKinexiumshavingoil for a couple of years now, but had never really though about using any other products in their range. That is until I visited their website, advertised on their packaging. www.shave.com is the URL.
Anyway looking through here amongst the advice, shopping pages and so on, I discovered the option to get a few free samples of K of S products.
To cut a story short 5 days later I had in my hand a free sample of (amongst other things) King of Shaves K-24 Men’s Active Moisturiser.
Not sure where the K-24 comes from, there are certainly more than 24 ingredients in the product. Maybe it’s the 24th product in the K of S range?
One thing to learn is that all K of S products have loooong names!
Now I had used moisturiser occasionally before...
